14060 bezel insert - fat four?
First time poster who’s spent way too long in these forums already :)
I’ve been looking into procuring a 14060 (not a 14060M) and I’m trying to figure out if the original bezel insert would have had a “fat four” font or the skinny four on the number 40. I’ve seen both fonts on the 14060s and can’t figure out if it’s because I’m seeing serviced / replaced bezel inserts or if Rolex just released both variants for the 14060s. It seems important for the anniversary sub, but I have yet to see a write up on just normal 14060s. Anyone able to shed any light? |

Different years of 14060 have different bezel fonts. It's not important like the 16610LV where the fat four designates the true 50th anniversary model.
The service bezel inserts are identified by having a 'skinnier' font. |

I see. So a 14060 with a skinny font can either be an original or a service replacement, while one with a fat four would seem to indicate it was original to the watch?
I wonder if anyone has done any looking into which years had which font? Probably impossible, if the company secrecy around serial number releases is any indication, but thought I'd ask. Yeah, in the scheme of things (and "collectibility"), it probably isn't very important, but liked the look of it, particularly the one with the mini serif. Basically, I'm into typography and minutiae, which this hobby certainly allows for. Thanks. |

Yes. I've seen both terms used (i think) interchangeably, but definitely let me know if I'm not using the right term. Basically, I'm referring to the presence of a straight horizontal line at the top of the '4' on the bezel (rather than coming to a point).

Flat 4 bezel inserts were pretty common in the 80's and early 90's.
Probably the first few years of the 14060 had flat-fours until the same time they began disappearing on the 16610.
