Find what you love, though by going through the exercise you just may end up with more than one watch (both dollar wise and addiction wise) . if it were me, while Patek is fine, I'd also be looking at models from Lange, Hentschel, Rolex, FP Journe, AP, ochs und junior as starters

In that price range for a platinum watch, I would personally be looking at a new Vacheron Cornes de Vache 1955 but if you don't mind pre-owned and have a larger wrist, a pre-owned Lange Datograph Up/Down would, perhaps, be a better choice. These both, however, are quite different from a platinum Rolex, which has awesome all-around heft due to the bracelet. As for a Day-Date or a Platona, is your lifestyle more dressy or sporty?

While I do love the Platona, it isn't an option. Already have the Daytona covered. If anything will be platinum in my collection it must be the flagship Day Date 40.

+1 for ALS. At the $50k level, I'd get a Zeitwerk.

Speaking about value for money, if you throw 35k at a 2nd hand JLC, you also get insane watches for the price. Something like this: https://monochrome-watches.com/jaege...te-gold-price/ And money to spare for a Daytona or PM Sub/GMT. |

A Mini Cooper S JCW
No seriously, I'd go for a Daytona Platinum or a WG version if too expensive. Cheers. Sent from my iPhone X using Tapatalk

Vintage Speedmaster Racing Dial ref. 145.022 would be my choice for $50k.

I would stretch the budget a little bit and find a pre-loved Platona.

Can’t help you as I don’t think I’d want to tie up $50 k in one watch

Since I already have the Daytona 116520, with an additional 50k I would get a Patek Calatrava 5000 white gold and the Oystersteel / white gold Rolex Sky-Dweller with blue face. For me, this would cover all possible bases.
I know that would leave me with about $20K left over, but can't really think of any other watches I would want to wear. |

The dial on your DD is absolutely beautiful. It's one of my favorites. And it looks even better up close and in person.

More like $84k overall right now. The 5712 is hovering at $60k and a white 500 can sell for as much as $24k completely unworn. Great pair.

50k on a watch doesn’t even register on my radar, so I couldn’t tell you! Lol I dunno... AP? PP? I don’t know. It’d be nice.

The thought of dropping that amount of money on a single watch scares me. It would never enter my head, even if I could afford it.
From the OPs choices though, after seeing Ken's pics it would have to be a platty DD. What a stunning piece!

Patek 5170R with Breguet numerals. DavidSW just had one (gone now) that was a month old for $54K. Stunning classic. However, a Platinum DD is not a terrible choice either, for sure.

Platona is regarded by some as the endboss in Rolex (probably because of the price tag) but it is not not by far the summum in Horlogerie. With a 50k budget I would be shopping for a Patek Philippe, Audemars Piguet or maybe a Breguet. Good luck shopping!

Honestly, at this point of my collection, I have only desire for 3 more watches.
The AP 26579CE Royal Oak Perpetual in all black ceramic The Patek 5970 perpetual calendar chronograph The Lange Zeitwerk $50K should get me the Zeitwerk, or partially fund the one of the other two watches. |
