I don’t believe it is. I just saw one listed on TRF a few minutes ago.

They’re readily available at almost every AD for a discount.

I've never really looked very close at the YM II. Here's a noob question.....What does the inner 3/4 dial numbered 0-10 tell the wearer? I assume the small blue dial are the seconds?

It's a ten (10) minute countdown used in sailing pre-race timer.

That's my layman's answer. (I'm the layman!)

Someone more knowledgeable should answer this.

Thanks for the info guys. I had no idea. I don't know anything about Yacht racing to begin with so I could never have guessed.

So, how did the original Yacht Master do this countdown or aid in Yacht racing? It only had a rotating bezel with graduations like a Submariner. I never really understood the difference between an original Yacht Master and a Submariner from a functionality standpoint.

Well, I use my Sub's bezel when I B-B-Q. I simply spin the bez and mark 'zero' where ever the minute hand happens to be. Then use the hash marks to count *up* the minutes. Let's be honest, that could be easily done right off the dial. But, what fun would that be?

Anyway, that's my guess.

Best,
Mark

in a race, you "jockey" your sailboat around the starting area positioning yourself to cross the starting line at the beginning of the race and not early or at "0". The race official gives you a 10 min. warning and that is when you start the watch timer.

It's a ten minute pre race start countdown. In reality no sailor would ever use this watch as it would not be anywhere near as good as some high tech solutions.

No — as previously stated they are out there and usually pretty readily available.

I’ve been on the verge of picking one up at lease twice already - as the wife and I love to sail — even though it is more a showpiece than anything else...I still love it though...

I do however prefer the older blue hand set.

Just slightly different aesthetics and worse WR. I can only assume that the original idea was a prettier, less tool-y sub for folks who work on water instead of under it. To be honest, I'm not sure why Rolex still makes it -- I assume there's sufficient demand. Maybe the allure is a PM bezel?
