-per tonight's games....group C is going to be a SUPER interesting group IMO. Peru has some talent, just couldn't convert.....Denmark looked good.....and Australia, pretty much could of had a tie on a team who is a major contender to win it all. I obviously think France will still pull through, but that #2 spot is going to become heated.

I think there is too much pressure on Messi and co to deliver the World Cup even though these are a group of professionals. You could see it in Messi’s face. He looked like he lost it all when at this point it’s too early to tell.

Anybody who criticizes Iceland's style of play is completely clueless. Their style of play offers them the best chance at winning, with the talent on their squad. We saw it at the Euros and saw it yesterday with Argentina. Overly defensive, patient and waiting for that opening here and there. and it works.

Iceland's squad......coming from a population of ~330,000 people.....with individuals such as a dentist as head coach and a filmmaker between the posts......being able to TIE a squad consisting of Messi, Di Maria, Aguero etc.....is nothing short of phenomenal.

Plus they have Sigurdsson who is an excellent player and worth £50m and rising...

In fairness to Messi he did look pretty good and was really trying, but there is not much around him, Aguero aside, and the Gods are just shining more on Ronaldo still, or he is making them.

I follow lots of sports but footy has always been my favourite.

So I’ve seen every World Cup since 1990, Pavarotti belting out the climax to Nessun Dorma is etched into my brain alongside the memory of Chris Waddle attempting to emulate the Americans and Russians by landing something on the moon with his penalty in the shootout.

But there have been some proper stinkers in that time. I have a vague recollection that USA ‘94 wasn’t a vintage tournament, though maybe my memory is tarnished by the mal-coordination of Diana Ross and the fact we weren’t there courtesy of Ronald bloody Koeman.

That being said, and with the first round of games not yet completed, this tournament so far has been sodding brilliant. Arriba Mejico!

Agree. I'm not even a bit superstitious but some say there's a 'curse' that haunts world champions. If I remember correctly, France 2002, Italy 2010 and Spain 2014 left the games earlier. I don't think that will happen again though. Germany has South Korea and Sweden ahead and I think their chances are still good. I like to watch good games so I hope they go further.
