Truthefully? I think this is a bit of a "nothing game," main focus here is to have no one injured or booked and to rest players. Both will go through. I'm not sure that there will be much gleaned from this game.

Yeah, also sounds like Gareth might give a few squad players a run around to keep morale high in the camp. In truth I don't think it matters, each game will be different and even if you play like kings one day, the next you can get beaten or get unlucky. It all hangs on a knife edge with all these teams. Look at today's result, Germany could easily have scored 2 late goals and won and they would still be tournament favourites for their toughness.

Same feeling here. The Belgian coach already said that he might change the whole team, besides Courtois. Lukaku, Hazard, KDB and a few others will probably not play.
What we know for sure is that being 2nd of our group would be better from a logistic point of view: the 2nd one will play 3 times in Moscow (nearby the Belgians hotel), with only one game (quarter final) in Samara (approx. 1700 kms-3 hours flight) VS the 1st one who will play in Rostov, Kazan, Saint Pétersbourg and Moscow for the final (4700kms-8H30 flight).

Without considering who we might play in eighth or quarter-final...

So I'm fine if we end up with an entertaining game, with substitutes showing nice skills and a friendly 2-2, without any player injured on both sides. Anyway, we'll meet again in the final!

Here comes the next round. It's a completely different tournament from now on. All focus on Mexico on Monday. Let's go!

Interesting day. I'm sorry for Germany. Sad to see a champion leaving that early.

Well we’re past the half way mark in the tournament.
Exciting and saddening at the same time ... it’s going by
too fast ...

Guess the curse strikes again. Former world cup winner will always goes out in the group stage of the next tournament. Italy, France, Spain and now Germany.
well go back a little, Brazil won in 94, reached the final in 98, won in 2002.
...and looking back:
Brazil won in 1958, won again in 1962

Quick question - do the yellow cards from game 3 carry over to the knockout phase, or are they wiped clean and start fresh?

Hahahahahaha I was about to say the same thing. I mean if I were a betting man, I'd agree with this guy. He's only picked out half the playing field

6 picks and missed out Belgium too who are incredibly dangerous and look a much better bet than the desperately average Argentinians and the ancient Uruguayans.

Yeah I'm still saying Belgium looks the part. Looking forward to the next week, the teams will be able to show their true potential, and who actually came to play.

Crazy the Colombia - Senegal doesn't have a single yellow card.

Senegal going out on yellow cards at the moment. That is dumb, especially as none of the outrageous amateur dramatics in the tournament has been punished. Surely they could find another tiebreaker - shots on target, corners? Anything but bookings.

Fair play.

Senegal played anything but a fair game. As dirty as dirty can be.

Congrats Japan and Colombia, who'll have to hold the fort against England and Belgium.

Ciao Senegal.

Did you see Ospina pretend to have a facial injury when the other guy never touched him? It’s pathetic, desperate and unmanly. Ref didn’t even spot it let alone punish him. Of course Ospina was up after a few seconds looking absolutely fine. Yellow cards are only a fair way of deciding who goes through if the refs have the balls and the tools to administer them appropriately. They don’t so it isn’t.

Colombia was up by one. Poland was up by one so Colombia was anything but desperate at that point.

Senegal got away with at least 3 clear yellows.

I wanted Senegal to go through - But they weren't playing with strategy. Their game plan was to go in the field and injure. Screw them. I'm glad they're out.

I can’t argue with your personal preferences but it looks like we’re talking across each other.

However, the fact that you say Senegal got away with lots of fouls that should’ve got yellows does reinforce the fact that it’s not a good way of separating teams.

Does this mean England should go for second?

Especially when you have Brazil, Uruguay, France and Argentina

Rather, Colombia straight away and have to content with a dodgy Spain and 2nd rate European teams, Croatia being dangerous.

Finish first: Japan → Brazil/Mexico → Uruguay/Portugal/France/Argentina

Finish second: Colombia → Sweden/Switzerland → Spain/Russia/Croatia/Denmark

Historically, England has always given Colombia a hard time. Japan is way too unpredictable at this point. You just don't know what they're coming out with.

Colombia's line up (with James being the big question mark for the next match) is pretty much rock solid.

Let Belgium win and field 2nd team...in fact, rest the whole team.

It would be really hilarious if both Belgium and England deliberately went out to lose!

Surely, they must consider the tactical side of playing the Columbia Route (No France, No Brazil, No Agries, No Suarez - 2014 World Cup ouch, No Ronaldo). No brainer.

Can somebody update me as to why James went out at 30’? Because he’s not playing up to snuff? Or is something wrong w him?

Colombian media is reporting hamstring cramps.

We'll see ... He was injured right before the Japan game so maybe he isn't 100%

He played well against Poland but today he was nowhere to be seen.
