Icon8 Want to order DJ for wife, AD wants full desposit?

So I wanted to order a PM DJ for my wife and I called up the AD, I was asked to come in .
I drove there and was asked for a full deposit, since they will order it for me . I'll be getting 20% off.
No time line or promises on when it would be coming. But they told me they have to get it from Switzerland.
It's not a hard to find model , I actually found it in two different ADs at full retail.

Do they just wait until rolex sends one? Luck on the draw?
Or is there an order with my name on it put in for me?
Thank you

My AD wanted full deposit for the SS Datejust they had to special order for me. Received 10%, no purchase history with them, and the watch came in a little over three weeks.

I think the practice is completely fair on a watch that isn't hot enough to be sold before it even hits the case, especially on a PM model- without upfront payment, they would risk sitting on a very expensive watch if you chose to back out or purchased elsewhere between the time you ordered it and the time it arrived in store.

there are thousands of possible DJ configurations. IMO if its not in stock a full deposit is totally fine. I would ask for one if it was my AD. For a sub or something, no, as its selling no matter if you change your mind or not.

Pay now....or pay later. Wouldn't bother me if I got the watch I ordered.

I totally agree, I just dont know about how they cant give me a proper timeline. I hope they dont just wait until rolex decides to send them one.
Paying in full , I feel like they should put an order in for me. And give me an estimate at least.
I didnt want to push since I was offer 20% off

pretty sure they can order one. SS Professional watches they cant order but this shouldn't be an issue. Probably a month is what i would guess depending on their normal delivery schedule of stock.

That is a very reasonable discount. I would take advantage of it and pull the trigger.

First time I walk into this AD, asked for a discount and was told that I'd receive 20% to make me part of the family and a repeat customer. I was thrilled

20% and no taxes a great deal. When I ordered a day date, they had to order it from Switzerland. I actually preferred it that way as it would be fresh and not sitting in a display case for other people to handle.

reasonable, considering it is a lady DJ and the discount, unless you must have it before a certain date

I would not put down a full deposit. The AD has limited ability/control to know when the watch will arrive. You will not be happy if the watch does not arrive when you are expecting and will need to start the search over again. Try another AD.

So they cant actually order it for me? Or they do and just wait until rolex feels like sending it?
They send it won't be coming from Rolex NYC, but Geneva

Mine was a special order, so they can absolutely do it for anything that isn't in high demand i.e., SS sports watches.

Side note- in internet parlance, 'PM' refers to watches that are solid gold or platinum. Although the bezel is white gold on the one you're interested in, it's still considered a stainless steel watch. I'll admit, Rolex's 'Rolesor' marketing buzz word actually confused me a few months ago because the way the description for it is written, I thought the alloy was a blend of stainless steel and gold. That said, 20% is an incredible discount for a stainless model, especially with no prior history with the AD

Sorry, I don't recall. Maybe a month or 6 weeks? I'm a little bit strange. I've bought watches and paid for them, and had the ad hold it in their safe for 7 or 8 months before taking delivery.

I like to get watches tied to my goals. I will buy a watch, but not get it until my goal is reached. Kind if like my carrot dangled in front of me.

I hope you will get it by your wife's birthday. I also think it is very cool that it needed to be custom-ordered and flown in from Switzerland. In my opinion, it makes the watch that much more special.

If the watch does not come in time, perhaps you could buy a nice jewelry box and put a picture of the watch inside. You would at least have something to wrap up and give her. Let her know that the watch is on its way.

Also agree that 20% on a stainless steel and white gold model is a great deal.

Understood, sorry about the confusion.
So it's a SS model?

Thank you, the gift box is going to have to be Green .
I read that people discourage this since the dealer might go out of service ?

As I understand they can order your model from Rolex Geneva, and it should take around a month between placing the order and it arriving at the AD from overseas. It's a datejust. They have tons.
