UPS Lost my incoming Skydweller

Last month UPS left my Fender Custom Shop Stratocaster down the street at the wrong address. I got the notice saying the package was delivered. No ring of the door bell. I look outside, no package. That's when me and the Mrs. starting walking down the street and found the package.

I hope you get it all sorted out.

I was picking up a box at my local UPS joint a few years back. As I was signing for my package I notice two ESP guitar boxes with dual semi trailer tracks on them and the contents were crushed. How does that even happen? How does a UPS truck manage to drive over two guitars?

Thats very unfortunate! I am getting a couple watches shipped to me next week as well.. they normally use USPS express but I asked for Fedex instead so hopefully that will minimize the risk.. but two recent posts about lost packages has got me a bit paranoid

Hadn't thought about that. It does ring true though. Post Office keeps getting worse and half the packages delivered by UPS look like they were run over by a forklift, if they even make it to your door.

Is it too late to change your request to USPS Registered Mail?

The failure rate at FEDEX vs UPS isn’t encouraging. And neither are immune to employee theft.

I have not asked yet.. but is registered mail through usps the absolute best way to go about this? The AD had mentioned they have their own insurance company which is why they normally use usps express for overnight shipping

Wow, I'm so sorry to hear this. I've been hearing negative things about UPS and lost or damages packages.

I really hope they're able to recover this and get it to you in the end, somehow.

I recently purchased two Rolexes one month apart. Both were shipped by USPS . One overnight and other on Saturday with express delivery for Monday. I received both of them with no problem.

Surely you aren't serious. What about other items of high value that are shipped by these companies? Plane tickets don't grow on money trees. Neither does time away from work.

Maybe my geographic location in NYC makes it a little different since more things of more varieties are readily available compared to a very small town in the middle of nowhere, but I still believe if you're going to spend $20k, $30k, $40k on an item, I don't think it is unrealistic to spend a few hundred to thousand dollars more.

Assume an extreme case of me flying JFK to SYD.... flights.google.com is showing 22hours + $1,300 for average flight prices. Yes, that is a large commitment but if you have the disposable income for a $20,000 watch, then you likely have a few more thousand for a flight and a mini-vacation. That case is absolutely an outlier, I would imagine the requirement to fly for more than 6 hours to buy something would be at the very edge of the curve. And if it is something ultra rare that requires a long trip, let's say a $100,000 watch, that person likely has the disposable income to fly there in luxury to get it.

Assume a not-so-extreme case of JFK to SFO...6 hours and under $400.

If you're willing to buy a very expensive item and then roll the dice with shipping, then by all means do it.

Damn, after reading two lost/stolen stories back to back I’m afraid to have my watch shipped.

Have you ever read the FedEx terms and their insurance? I trust USPS registered mail the most.

I live on the Cape and don’t like going over the bridge...so an airplane?? I'll take the insured, no risk to me option.

I don’t ship ups usps FedEx over weekend. Will only ship out Monday Tuesday or Wednesday FedEx overnight. Don’t want it sitting around overnight

Thanks. It's not without it's flaws and I'm not claiming it's perfect. That being said, I've purchased all of my watches F2F in the cities I've lived either from boutique or grey so you can classify me as risk adverse. If others are willing to accept more risk and ship, more power to you.

I don’t trust anyone who loses nearly 3 billion dollars a year. I use them and still don’t trust them. It’s unfortunately the least expensive way to ship certain things.
