9 Digit Serial Number?

Hello All-

Looking at a G series 116710LN with all boxes, papers and sales receipt (wempe), seller says all original

but serial number is G plus 8 numbers for 9 digit total. Is this possible? I thought max digits in 2012 was 8 total (including the alpha).

Anyone know for sure?

G prefix serials came out in 2010 just after Rolex started releasing the random serials.

If it is a true G prefix, it will have 7 total digits. If it is a random that just happens to start with G, it will have 8 digits.

I suppose it is possible for a random s/n sequence to start with a letter and then be followed by only numbers.

That would be better documented if the seller had the warranty card, an RSC card or AD receipt showing that serial number.

Do any of those comport with the watch’s s/n?

My green Sub starts with a P plus 7 digits.

On the rehaut, the "X" in 1st position and/or the "R" in the last position are not part of the s/n

Could you post a picture of that? Partially blurred if you wish, for security purposes... I highly doubt the serial has a total of 9 characters (letters and numbers).

I meant P plus 7 digits not 8, my bad.

My new ND sub has 8 digits starting with a V and the remaining 7 digits are all numbers. I even had my AD call Rolex to confirm when I was buying the watch in store. I was sitting there looking at my new purchase and rationalising how is this a V series 114060 when they weren't released until 2012.

When my AD called Rolex they said they weren't surprised by my question, it would appear it's been asked before. It's classified as 8 digit random serial numbers, whereas a 'V' series from 2009 is V plus 6 numbers so 7 digits in total.

Rolex also confirmed to my AD when my sub was completed and shipped from Geneva to Rolex UK. Suffice to it's a 2018 model.

I was in a similar situation with my P plus 7 serial Hulk, since P is technically a year 2000 serial and the LV didn't exist then.

How difficult would it be for Rolex when selecting random serial numbers just to throw in a random letter/number within the sequence so it doesn't bear any resemblance to a pre-2011 serial number ??!!??

That's what I thought. 9 characters would obviously be a fake.
