I think for most its just the joy of owning, especially if its a hard to get piece. Thats why you see a lot of flipping or selling going on. Also explains a bit of the shortage at AD's, as people who don't really want the watch snatch it up just because they "can't lose".

I didnt want to be one of those guys with 30 daytonas that all look the same

Having multiple PM watches lets me experiment with platinum, diamonds, alligator, rose gold, and mother of pearl.
