Rolex is 'cooking' something big. Only THEY know what it is

Good afternoon TRF. As final details for a very special private event in Mexico City are taking a LOT of time, and with this, a LOT (ok, let me write this again...a LOT) of reunions; I have met with a very unusual number of brands and authorized dealers.

This morning, something very interesting in the 'big crown' market. After having coffee with a top AD, some comments during the conversation were striking:

- They are having a very hard time with the SS sports models; batmans and hulks are precious prizes replacing daytonas. SS Pepsi: Don't even mention it (ok, no news here)

- Because of this new strategy, general sales for AD's in the country has....INCREASED in double digits. No, they can not sell over retail per Rolex policy; yet, overall sales are UP.

- ALL AD's have been called to a meeting next week @ corporate. Word on the street is that something big is in the green kitchen. But as always, only they know.

...just sharing with my virtual family.

Back to follow up e-mails......

Price increase, IMO.

Have they done anything that benefited a WIS since shifting their strategy?

Interesting G,

I heard similar comments from a local AD, “business is good and sales have been up for PM models.”
Alas for me SS will remain the chosen metal when it comes to Rolex.

Hoping the Something new will be desirable and available.

Hopefully they have decided to bring lugholes back

Maybe prices but with something else. Usually price increases are informed via letters, not asking all ADs for a meeting. We will see....

Rolex reward program would be nice. I don’t mind being loyal to the brand but I’m sick of AD nonsense. The one thing I hate about Rolex is no direct access to the company.

Rolex HQ will start holding waiting lists for SS models and play it a la Patek with only the right to buy one SS model per name

This is really big, big, big news! I'm going out on a limb here and let you all in in on a huge secret. I have no idea what the holy heck is going to happen in rolex world.

As everyone else I would like to see an explanation for the shortage and maybe some resolutions.

What about gazing out ADs and shipping directly to the consumer from their website?

Due to us tariffs on steel they are going to follow Ford. Ford plans on stopping all passenger cars except the Mustang and will mainly make SUV and pickups. In a similar move, Rolex will stop making all models which currently retail below $25000 usd. Except the new oyster perpetual 29mm which is the sports watch for the 20s.
Edit: this is uninformed sarcasm

Jeez, Supreme is the new Rolex is the new Supreme. At least Rolex is being honest with itself in shedding any last remaining bit of pragmatism and going full-on luxury Veblen good. Yuck.

I always said I never cared how anyone felt about the watch I'm wearing, but that's starting to change for me, because this is getting embarrassing.

....out on a limb here, I’ll bet it’s a big group hug from Rolex, informing the AD’s the sky is not falling.

Probably an adjustment in the allotment system for stainless watches. I imagine they'll be on an order process only for now on. Probably also a price increase.

I doubt it's anything to do with direct sales, or increasing production, etc.

Let's hope it's not the concept smart watch video going around. I would love to see more Oystersteel production.

This seems very feasible. Especially the AD’s with other brands in house.
