My Ideas for Daytona improvements.
Ok... I've been buggering (is that a word?) around with lots of ideas as to the Daytona 2 model, what I'd like to see anyway. I'm sure Rolex will be calling me any minute now to purchase the exclusive rights to my ideas and put the Daytona 2 in to production tomorrow... what do you guys think? Is 25 million too much to ask?
Daytona owners, (and non-owners), please chime in on these thoughts... 1. Add a date. This has been kicked around so much... but I admit, I miss having one, I'm thinking around the "4" on the dial. 2. Put a little color in there. Make the mini-dials black circled, or green circled, or something like the older style cosmographs, it's hard enough seeing the watch face at my age much less the small dials, adding color will help. 3. Make the hour totalizer a 6-hour instead of a 12-hour. I know the watch is named the "Daytona", but that race is 24 hours, not 12. I submit anything that is over 6 hours long is not something that needs to be timed with a stopwatch. 4. Add a bezel. I know this is going to upset a lot of people, but along with the date, that's what I miss most about my GMT. I used it to mark times for an appointment I had to remember, or a phone call, whenever I looked at my watch there was a reminder of an upcoming event. Really, who uses the tachymeter anyway? 5. Make the "fat hands" even fatter. Goes back to that whole legibility thing, and as long as we're at it, I wouldn't mind it being a little bit bigger, certainly I think a 41 or 42 MM watch wouldn't look too big, and adding just a little more room would make it much easier to read. Well, that's about it ... I'm open to the comments and criticisms from my fellow TRFers.... just don't throw any shoes at me. |

I'd trade mine in for one with some of those options.
Fatter hands, Check Never use the tachymeter, but without it, it's not a daytona, but yeah, lose that too. Why not fix the screw down crowns. Remove them. My Panerai doesn't have screw down crowns & it's waterproof for all my purposes.

I'd agree with adding a date but would like the fixed tachymetre bezel to be in black instead of the present silver. Also, the rings around each of the subdials should be in black too. And please - an open caseback!

#1 - Agree #2 - Agree #3 - Agree #4 - Maybe #5 - Disagree with fatter hands but Agree with 41 or 42 mm. I like the old style thin hands Daytonas. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- #1 and #2 sounds similar to Monte Carlo Tudors. Beautiful timepieces. |

For me just add a date and change the dial like the black and red dial on the WG daytona...

Yes quite simple dial and bezel like the 6263 Daytona and perhaps a date complication.
