Rolex Under $2,000?

Hey guys,

I am new around here and am wondering if there is any way at all to get a Rolex under $2,000? That is currently what I could probably scrounge up to buy a Rolex without having to sell any of my investment. Also, I can't wait for a paycheck or anything like that because I can not get a job yet. If anyone could help me out that would be great. If I cannot get a Rolex, is Tudor my next best option? I tried to post a message like this but it didn't so up so I hope this one will.

I'd look at Tudor (likely used). Perhaps Longines - there are some other nice brands that can get you a watch for $2k.

I’m all for you doing what you want to do in life. I’m basing this comment on your post and apologize if I misunderstand your position: If you’re scrounging and unemployed, maybe hold off on a watch purchase until you land a job.

You might get a pre owned Rolex Cellini.

I’d go for a Tudor though.

Welcome Adam. It sounds like you have a specific watch in mind? I am not well versed on the older Rolex models, but even the more ubiquitous datejusts would go for more than that I am thinking.
Tudor is a good surrogate, with its own flair and style. I guess the question is why you would want a Rolex now as it appears maybe not the best time for you to buy one. There are plenty of great watches at or below the $2000 range - Oris, Sinn, Nomos, Longines, Seiko, etc,. Pre-owned Omega, IWC, etc.

Surely there is things higher on your list of priorities than getting a Rolex? As great as it is to own ultimately it's just a watch and if you can't afford what you really want at this time maybe get some work and try to bring your savings up to a point where it is a positive choice rather than a struggle to aquire.

Especially a "luxury watch". This is a want, not a need. Wait until you are employed and have disposable income, my 2c.

Short answer is not likely something you want to keep long term. Better to save up to around $5k and the. Try to find a nice no date sub, explorer II, explorer or new(ish) Air King.

Thanks for the responses guys. I can not get a job currently because I am not old enough. I keep most of my money in stocks and precious metals. I will look at Tudor or possible a pre-owned Omega. Thanks!

My advice: save, until you can comfortably afford what you truly want; otherwise, your money is not well-spent. In fact, you’ll likely be wasting it.

As the rest have suggested, I’d highly recommend waiting until you have a steady stream of income. I honestly wouldn’t even suggest getting a $200 watch without having any kind of income. You can get a tough G-Shock for $40 if you really need a watch and it’ll last a long, long time.

Take the money out of precious metals and put it into a precious metal Rolex. It’d be kind of the same thing but much more fun. Probably make more money too.

A pre owned Omega Speedmaster Mark II or Speedmaster Reduced would be within reach also.

A Seiko is a respectable watch. Watched a video today about guy who tried to buy a Rolex cheap, under £1600 and it did not go well, two services and it still wasn't good.
Buy a Seiko and concentrate of getting yourself in a position where you can do what you want to do.

Anyway you could potentially get an old beat up Rolex for $2k. I'd recommend a budget of $5k though, then you'll get something decent.

Look at the vintage Thunderbird date just Turn-o-graph. Potential problems for older lower cost watches will eventually need to be serviced. Service for a vintage piece could cost more than the purchase price. Omega is a great place to start. I'd normally suggest going to an AD but their stock is so limited these days. Try a place near you that sells preowned watches like Tourneau to try on a few so you can pick out the watch you want apposed the the watch you can afford. Good luck and happy hunting.

You could probably find a vintage Precision, but any sports model will require you to save a bit. You have plenty of time, though, and Rolex isn't going anywhere.

If you want to get into the Tudor/ Rolex game from my experience I'd suggest looking for a Tudor Ranger or possibly a Black Bay although that may be a little over your 2k budget. I have both and love them. I also had a Sinn pilot 104 st sa day date with a timing bezel on an H bracelet, (great lume too) that has a nice sellita automatic movement and looks pretty sharp too. As others said, be patient and you'll find a real nice piece that won't break the bank. Good luck and happy choosing..
