I love golf but will pass on this, no interest at all. Would have been a hotter ticket ten or fifteen years ago. Also, not playing with their own money.

And by the way, that match was 80 years ago and only via pay-per-view

Race: November 1, 1938, (vintage video) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WVT2MPNCqgM

https://www.theguardian.com/sport/20...e-1938-pimlico
"....
But the country stopped for Seabiscuit vs. War Admiral. More than 40,000 people descended on the Baltimore track. An estimated 40 million more – including FDR – were listening on the radio.

“They didn’t know what to do with all the people,” Hillenbrand said. “They funneled 10,000 people into the infield. People were hanging from the rafters in the grandstand. Thousands more were outside the track, hanging from trees, standing on rooftops. All of America was holding its breath for this race.”

Hundreds of reporters descended on Pimlico. The track was lined with newsreel cameras. Here is how the legendary Grantland Rice, reported on the race:

“A little horse with the heart of a lion and the flying feet of a gazelle yesterday proved his place as the gamest thoroughbred that ever faced over an American track.

“In one of the greatest match races ever run in the ancient history of the turf, the valiant Seabiscuit not only conquered the great War Admiral but, beyond this, he ran the beaten son of Man O’War into the dirt and dust of Pimlico…..the drama and the melodrama of this match race, held before a record crowd keyed to the highest tension I have seen in sport, set an all-time mark.”

I know, it's just crazy what some people spend their money on. I read somewhere that people are spending $18K for a $9K watch. Yes, a watch! :)

Funny documentary on HBO about this. Phil and Tiger are good friends and bet on everything when playing practice rounds. They discuss this some on the show. I will not pay for it, but they will have mics on and it will be funny. Lots of trash talk and side bets.

Per Golfweek:
“Golf Channel reported that Mickelson’s agent, Steve Loy, and Woods’ agent, Mark Steinberg, both confirmed that their players would donate some of their proceeds from the head-to-head event.”
I'm glad they are donating something. They are both California boys and I'd like to see them help out the fire victims in the state.

I am a huge golf fan, and enjoy watching most tournaments. I am also a fan of Tiger and Phil both, and am interested in who the winner will be. Anyone who knows and follows golf, understands it has nothing to do with who is the better golfer but who is better that day. However, not that $20 is a big deal, I just have a problem paying $20 for something that should be free. I think the ratings would be surprisingly good, if it were to be free, but with the fee, I predict a flop. Of course, just my humble opinion.

Almost zero interest. Manufactured “trash” talk and rivalry and isn’t it so wonderful that a couple of dollars went to charity! Actually this event was somewhat objectionable.

phil put up more money playing amateurs. They needed to put up 1 mil a hole of their own money to make it interesting

Haha I watched some of it as a friend ordered it. I think Charles Barkley put it best when he said to the announcers “can I talk?” To which they replied “yes of course.”

He then says “this is some crappy golf”

Yeah it is. Make them play for something that matters. Phil gambles all the time.

I watched the match I was kinda disappointed neither of them played their "A" game I like both these players my wife is a huge Phil fan that was a pretty easy course for a professional not enough birdies I don't think there were any eagles I enjoyed watching the match but very disappointed in the level of play from 2 world class professionals.

I ordered it in 4K. I love golf and these two are my favorites, but I ordered it so I could see Shadow Creek in 4K. Played it a handful of times but never get tired of seeing it. As a side note , it took me calling DTV 5 times before they would acknowledge that I have a 4k TV and allow me to get it. Massively irritating.

AT&T, Comcast, Charter Communications, and Dish Network – These companies are among the cable and satellite providers who will give refunds to those who paid $19.99 to watch Friday's golf match between Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson. That comes after a technical glitch with AT&T's live streaming service prompted AT&T to offer the match for free – causing complaints from customers of other companies who had paid to see the match.

I watched it and liked it, and my man won!

The golf wasn't great, there should have been more player commentary, and there should have been more side bets.

Also, way too many commentators blabbing on trying to prove their worth.

I'm looking forward to the rematch so that Phil can beat him again.

Surprisingly, the match was a success

Turner received 750,000 unique video views and 55 million minutes consumed on B/R Live for The Match, which led Levy to state "We don't have all the facts and figures, but based on early indications, the total audience for the match surpassed expectations across all of our platforms."
