2008 was a very good year for us........except for the terrible hit poor Ronan took with his damn Ulcerative Colitis.

Hope he gets better soon.....at least he seems to be responding well to the medication.....although even that has its ups and downs.

I'm sorry to read about your woes and how much you hate Houston, Greg; but perhaps a change of attitude and temperement might help to change your outlook and general well being as well.

Now that you are already settled in Houston, why not look at the bright side of things? Surely, that place can't be all bad. I've heard only good things about it from people who live there; so why not brighten up, be a bit more positive in life and that will also make you and your wife happy.

Just try a bit of JJ magic, Greg. Works for me, buddy!!

Good luck - JJ

The Worst: Worrying about the economy and job security (3 family members lost their jobs this year).

The Best: The family is healthy, happy and together.

Always the optimist, I do believe 2009 will be all good!

I have a lot of clients that have offices in Houston. I have never been there but my wife has and said it is a nice place (she went there for work training session this year). I was thinking of moving there someday (to get away from the cold winters up here).

Whats so bad about Houston is my question?

Best- I finally found the woman that I had been searching for.

Worst- That woman dumped me with basically no reasoning and no explanation completely out of no where. She also goes to the same college as me enrolled in the same program, so I'll have to see her everyweek for two months....I think I'll be spending every wedsday in the pub getting sauced....

I try not to categorize the good from the bad because it's life and we get a bit of both each day. But sometimes a bit more good creeps in and it takes you completely by surprise. For instance, I've been taking a little time off over the holidays and my wife seems to have developed a renewed interest in her hoover technique. Must have been Bubba's subliminal messages getting through.

And you, my dear friend.....have never lived or ever been to India!

Having lived in that country for almost 50 years and having travelled the length and breadth of it, trust me when I say, Houston would probably be like HEAVEN compared to many of the places I visited and lived in.

You have no idea what stark raving poverty is like until you visit India. Nothing can even begin to compare with some of the things I've seen and experienced.

Houston would, by comparison, be paradise.

Greg.....you need to either do something about your present situation and predicament.....or LIVE with it.

You aren't exactly in Biafra or Zimbabwe!!! Come on, buddy....you're in Texas - the largest state in the US of A. I'm sure there's no shortage of food and water or any of the other important necessities of life.

There are a number of members on this forum who live there and love it. In fact, I would love to visit that place just to prove you wrong.

Please don't think I'm trying to start up an argument. All I'm saying is that the more you moan and bitch about the place you live in, the unhappier and sadder you are going to make yourself. Also realise that this negative attitude can rub off on your loved ones and, in turn, make them pretty miserable too.

Be happy.....find things to make yourself happy. Don't moan about the weather - do something about it. India was a stinking hell-hole in summer; but I could still put on a smiling face. Some of the places I had to visit as a Medical Rep for Glaxo would make you puke; but I stuck it out.....through thick and thin.

Be positive in life, be fun-loving, be happy. Always look at the brighter side of things out there. Trust me, it's so much fun being able to enjoy the things around you rather than being a sour-puss Mr. Grumps.

I hope you take all of the above in good spirit from a 62 year old, pretty well experienced guy. No offence is intended, but you cannot go around moping your way through life. You will be miserable and so will those around you.

Good luck and good cheer - JJ

x2 JJ! The grass is always greener on the other side but I've been to both places, and while you could make the case that Houston is not one of the best cities in these United States, it is paradise compared to what I have seen in my few visits to India. I don't recall seeing huge masses of poor hungry begging people in Houston, I do in India. I don't recall seeing people defecate in the middle of the road in Houston. I do in India. I don't mean to put down India. It is an amazing country, but it is hard to get over the poverty and appalling conditions that most people there face daily.

But to your point. negative thinking begets negative behavior which spreads to the others around the person generating the negativity. Add narcotics to the mix and it's a difficult downward spiral to stop.

Greg, anyway we can help you find a little bit of joy in this life?

Very interesting comments, Leighton. What you've written is absolutely true. Which places in India did you get to visit?

We've got dealers in Mumbai, Chennai, and Kolkata. Rail travel there is pretty grueling! I did find the toilet interesting when I lifted the lid and could see the track flying by.
