Who else is bummed out?

So, my APs are the 44 rose gold and a 15400 blue ...

One has a soon to be replaced movement (I assume) and the other has been gutted and updated (aesthetically speaking I lean indifferent / 15500 due to the fatter lume in the hands).

I don't quite know where I stand. Obviously they are the same watches I had and loved before the announcements but I have this nagging feeling.

I think the royal oaks will continue to have fantastic. Resale value especially with the new ones going up at least 10 percent. I prefer the dial of the 15400 a lot more than the 15500 plus I prefer the thinner case over the new one

It crap like this that is the reason that independents like rolex and Patek continue to be where collectors put their money.

AP made some bizarre choices with their new 11:59 line up, the pieces should be rebranded and sold to department stores.

as far as the remake of the RO, it may very well be the most disrespectful of the original design yet created. The case, bracelet and bezel are way out of balance.

Enjoy what you have and keep moving, there is nothing to see here.

Ps Along the discussion of value how about omega bringing back the 321 movement!
My thought is it will undermine each of the limited editions done the road.

Surely all watches one day are replaced by something new. The 15400 is 7 years old and we all know the 44s are rereleased each year in new colorways. Nothing classic about them in my opinion. I still love them!

I don’t think your 15400 is going to lose value at all. Quite the opposite. Price is likely going up on the 15500 and there’s always a market for what you can’t have anymore.

No impact here.

I will still smile bigly whenever I put on my 15300.

I don't give a tinker's cuss what about the market dynamics.

Idk Gus I would argue what Rolex did to the 6 digit subs or what Patek has done to the aquanaut and nautilus is far worse. Everything you said applies to stuff like the 5168/5990/5968 116610 216570 DDII the list goes on.

If you still enjoy wearing the watches, why does it matter? Unless you find the latest offerings to be much better after trying on, then just flip and upgrade. Both watches still have good resale value relatively to many other watches. I for one plan to keep my silver dial 15400.

AP is technically also independent as they are family owned and not belong to any conglomerate. Let's not forget Rolex and Patek have both been guilty of producing monstrosities in the past. Nobody is forcing you to buy the new line.

Didn’t Rolex just discontinue the SD 40mm update to a 43mm and upgrade the movement? Same with the DSSD, GMT and datejust?

I for one am perfectly happy with my current APs. 3120 is a great movement and it’s still being used as the base for all the skeletons and the ROO for the time being. I also like the dial and date location of the 15400 over the 15500.

I hope the new chrono doesn’t make it into the ROO and change the subdial and date layout. I’d be up for an integrated chrono eventually if they can keep the layout the same.

I felt a bit like this when my RG DD2 was updated to the DD40, the proportions which seemed fine at the time suddenly appeared a little bloated, even if the new DD40 was a bit too small for me. A good thing was the price bounced and I sold it for a RG Nautilus so it all worked out.

We've had the RG 44 changed to the newer dial which I don't prefer, and as for a new movement, well mine so far has given me no problems and it starts up as soon as I pick it up, don't even have to shake it at times, so I'm very happy with it, easiest watch I've ever owned, it's like a quartz!

As for the blue 15400 it would all be based on the colour shade for me, the other changes are too insignificant to overrule that, and I'd be surprised if the 550's blue dial is nicer. If I had the black I might fancy a change, esp if it wears smaller.

Well, it was inevitable that they would update these watches, but I’m bummed out for you because...

Have to agree! I would love one but I fear the paranoia of a white gold 15202 I couldn’t even keep my ST jumbo clean

I totally understand the OP’s sentiment. AP’s treatment of their hardcore fans is almost Panerai-like. Okay not that bad. As someone that has a vague interest in the brand mostly as a short term owner I think: maybe I can pick up a 15300 or 15450 on the cheap as a beater....so many random versions of the same basic watch it’s silly. If not, who cares. It’s not like AP will ever stop churning out the same watch with negligible changes.

New releases are inevitable. All you can do is buy classic pieces and hope you choose well. Doesn’t matter how old your sub is - it’s just as stylish as the ceramic. I think the 15400 has tons of life left.

Not true. I already called about it and unless you’re a VIP you can’t buy it

Still true, even VIP's cant get other models, this isn't an "easy" model to get, but it's definitely not going to be nearly as hard to get as the legit unobtanium re ceramic perpetual or perpetual limited editions if you have any significant history with AP...it is a 100 piece run though I think.

75 pieces in total, more rare than IP...
Total numbers of IP the boutique I am close with only got 3. Comparing to ceramic PC, they received 2.
Considering the production number of new WG jumbo is only half of IP, I would say its either as difficult as ceramic PC to get, or even more difficult than ceramic PC. Definitely harder to get than IP for sure.

MSRP 55k USD, I can see greys selling them for 90-100k at least.
