The stereotype of lawyers is very poor, as you correctly point out. And then you have helpfully provided a partial explanation of why lawyers have such a poor reputation.

That's fine. I do a great job for my clients. I tell them the truth, not what they want to hear. I treat other attorneys with respect and civility. I am prepared, always, and I know when to keep my mouth shut. And as a Family Law Attorney, I can help people through a difficult process.

Haters can hate. The misinformed and the aggrieved can spew worthless opinions. Last week was a mid five figure week for me. I love my job. I love my profession. And I am in the market for a really nice shiny new wristwatch for all my hard work.
What are your thoughts on casual Friday?

You think this place applies the "rules" consistently? Not only would it have been shut down, but posts or entire thread deleted and members banned.

Oh really. Perhaps you would like to engage in a pointless internet argument? I'm not interested. I have to ask though... is living in your parent's basement difficult on date night?

Although, I do get what you are saying. Truth is, her role in these studios and her ability as a teacher could very well propel her to a very fruitful career. And boy oh boy, I hope that it does.

Could I deal with her becoming a celebrity fitness instructor? Heck yeah I could.

I’d love to see it.

Now that she’s left, I need to unpack a few more boxes (her instructions) wait for the guy hooking up the whole house water filtration unit (her “demand”), and then head to the gym so I don’t become the older fat guy that people point (and laugh at) at for being with the young hot wife.

I do completely get your points tho. Very possibly this dynamic works for us because we came into the relationship this way. If it evolved into something like this, it might very well be a different story.

We both work hard every day to ensure we don’t go down the divorce path. That’s just typically a disaster, no matter what.

This is spot on at my house as well Seth.

My wife works part time with Lifeskills kids at the high school. But has a Masters Degree in social work from a Big10 school. And runs this house. It works for us. When we were first married we contributed equally financially. Then she went to grad school so we lived on my salary. Then I started a business so we lived on hers. Then both again, now mine. In a month we will live on hers and savings as I start another business (dummy) It has been fluid for 22 years so we are used to change.

I am the main breadwinner but have been gone a lot traveling for work over the last 13 years (and will be for at least the next 30 days until my notice is up and I start a new job). So she runs the house. When I am home on days other than Saturday-Monday it is a shit show.

When I am home she gets whatever she wants (within reason if course) and when I am gone she does what she needs to keep the house moving. She is a very frugal gal, no expensive jewelry or crazy spending habits. Shops for groceries at Aldi and primarily at Amazon/Costco for other stuff. Drives a Jeep Grand Cherokee and loves it. And picks up all the dog crap in the yard.

But marriage is 100% a full time job by both to avoid the big D. We have just always decided to put the time in and are really happy.

I have been lucky to never go thru a bad divorce or business deal where I needed a lawyer and felt taken advantage of. If I do need one at this point I have several I can turn to depending on what the need is. I agree they get a bad rap and we joke about that but in the end it is like that with every field. Met as many car salesman, insurance salesman and doctors that were total asshole vultures as lawyers. Unfortunately lawyers get sent in to clean up messes that many times could easily be avoided with a little planning and forethought in their clients part. And when you are in the business of dealing with angry, bitter and stubborn people these things happen.

Yet if a divorce were to happen, the chances of you getting alimony vs your spouse is extremely NOT in your favor. That's why the OP is in the situation he's in. And, also why the lawyer is able to continue to bringing it up.

I'm a retired lawyer and I've never understood it, but there are lawyer's who are, simply, willing to fight to the last drop of their client's blood.

As I insinuated in my original post in response to the OP.

It is similar in every profession. And similar to lawyers, professional sales people have a horrible reputation.

I am a professional sales person. And I make it my mission to tell the customer what is right for them, not what is right for me.

But quite often I hear stories about people buying solutions they don't need. And this is because they were "sold" on a solution. I know of companies that spent millions on automation that simply can't be justified...but they bought into the hype.

it is the same in all professions. some just have worse reputations than others.

part of me wishes i was married, but when i survey the scene out there, a big part says i am glad i am not,

i think i may have been born 100 years too late,

the quality pool is shrinking, not meaning in the looks department, but in the morals, decency and intelligence department.

I am pretty sure i could never have been a solicitor* though, such intense learning for so long, i admire those that can do that.

True. Ours would be interesting if it were to happen. The big bite for me would be child support for the next couple years. I have several friends that have got divorced and alimony in Indiana is tough sledding from what I have been told unless someone is disabled.

I run into this every day in my business. We show every client every available option and explain the pros and cons of each, fees included and let the client decide. Transparency is the key.

But as they say, all is fair in love and war (and divorce I guess)

so very true. we do the same. and our mission statement is to build long last relationships. the one off sale is good, but the relationship builds the portfolio.

still tho, as hard as we try....people are still skeptical. reputations can be hard to overcome. we fight it daily. so far, so good though. no complaints.
