Importance of this forum and incoming!
If you are not interested in some background (which I can understand), please skip the text and have a look at this brand new Rolex Explorer 214270.
I just felt obliged to share a little, as this forum has become kind of important to me and I kind of need to get this off my chest. Being diagnosed with incurable cancer at age of 53 last year March and expected not even to outlive the battery of my old digital Casio that had 6 months to go, I thought I needed to concentrate on the important things and was done with watches and changing/flipping them. Well, I’m not and I will never be. Watches are an important thing for me. This forum is the first thing I read every early morning and a few times during the day as well. I guess the “new posts” button is one of the most often used ones. During the years I went through most of the modern Rolexes and a few older ones. I recently bought a BLRO - yes, I was lucky to be offered one and I did pay a substantial premium, but it is worth it and I made good money on selling an as new Omega TinTin that I couldn’t wind anymore due to some side effects of the chemo in my fingers. To me the 126710 BLRO is the best watch I owned and I love the new jubilee -. And now I have a new Explorer, as I really “needed” something “simple”, black, no PCL and no date. I flipped the blue GV Millgaus. For me and my wrist it feels a little unbalanced (the weight and dimensions, not it’s beautiful and specific appearance). To be complete on the current collection : the Bluesy is one of my all time favorites and here to stay. I spend a lot of time on the net and Insta (I can be found there as well as @ted_watches) looking at and reading about Rolex (favorite brand) and watches in general. At this moment I am beating the odds, outliving the diagnoses by 4 months already. Despite the continuous chemo, I am still in a reasonable condition (although that can change any time) and I live by the day, trying to do nice things, have fun and be happy (sounds easy but is hard some times). Collecting a new watch like today really helps, as the daily read of this forum does. Thank you all for making this friendly forum what it is. I will enjoy this untill the very last day! And don’t worry about me. I am not afraid of what is coming, I have come to terms with it and I can handle the pain. I had (and still have) a very good, happy and lucky life, have a lovely family, great friends. I am greatful and I enjoy every day, no matter the “inconvenience”. Thanks for reading and have a good one!

Ted, I like your avatar; it's nice that they named the movie after you. LOL
Hey, seriously, you seem to have a really good attitude and thanks for sharing. I think that if watches make you happy and you enjoy the flipping (even if that's on pause for now) then why not! We need to take in pleasure in whatever it is that "does it" for us, regardless of that others may think. And that focus may change as we get older, or our health declines (or gets better). Nothing wrong with that. Best wishes, Michael

Keep fighting Ted. You sound like a top man.
Keep enjoying your BLRO. Fortunately for me my wife bought me my BLRO for my birthday last year. I was never a jubilee fan but the BLRO has totally changed my mind. Feels really comfortable on the wrist. Its my go to watch at the moment. |

Thank you for sharing this special note. It puts things into perspective very well.
I had a heart attack in the beginning of December. While in the hospital I thought about all the things I have done in my life and all the things I have wanted to do. One of them was owning a Rolex. Well a little over a month later I scratched that one off the list. I can't help but check the time now even when I know what time it is already. Wishing you the very best my friend. Tom |

Ted your positive outlook is sheer amazing. I feel you might like this quote by Voltaire:
"God gave us the gift of life, it is up to us to give ourselves the gift of living well." Live strong and live well, buddy. We are all rooting for you. |

Thank you for posting Ted. Never quit because you just never know.
I’m super happy that you have great friends and family who support you. I’m also glad that you have this place as an outlet. We are like a dysfunctional family here at times, but in the end I like to think we are all cheering for each other. Be well Ted and congratulations on the Exp, great reference and I hope you enjoy it for a very long time to come |
