A Trusted and Upscale Grey Dealer (Selling Rolex, AP, PP) Offer to Service my Safari
Guys,
Last week, I purchased BNIB and extremely Hard to Get (at least here in South East Asia) Hulk from a trusted and upscale Grey Dealer. They noticed that I was wearing my AP Safari with some scratches on it. They asked how old my Safari? I answered about 4 years old...and they said it's about time have it serviced or at least polished....and they said if I go to APSC the cost would be around $ 2000 minimum.... Then they offered to service or at least to polish my Safari. I said, I'm worried to have my AP serviced and polished by non APSC.... They said they dealing everyday with Rolex, AP and PP....so it's very safe to entrust my Safari to them.....They service even watches with tourbillon....and they would charge only USD 500 for complete service and polishing for my Safari.... So what do you think guys? If I see their inventory, I have no doubt....they're selling much more expensive watches than my Safari....and saving USD 1500 is quite tempting..... Regards,

Far too soon for a service if it I shall running within specifications. Mine is running perfectly after 9 years wear. Then only to AP, Rolex service maybe.

If it's running fine and unless the scratches bothers you, don't bother. Also, even if it need service, you should send it back to APSC.

I wouldn’t polish the watch at all, but if I would do it it would be at AP. I’ve seen too many bad polishing jobs.
Also, don’t service the watch until it needs it. |

Hulk hard to get in Southeast Asia? Not really, unless you are focused on paying MSRP or below.

NO polishing outside of the APSC. There is very little chance they have the proper machines and techniques to get the sharpness back into the bezel edges. What will most likely happen is a dullnes of the edges. At worst case scenario, too much metal will be taken off and the screw heads will look like crap.
I would not do it.

Regardless of the AP service cost, dont cheap out to save some money on AP/Patek. The finishing can be extremely different if done by a 3rd party and then when you take it to the authorized service centre, they can refuse to do servicing (someone can correct me if im wrong but i believe that's true) or charge you even more money to do it correctly.

Deff no to anyone besides APSC piloting the delicate bezel of royal oaks.
And there is no need to service your watch thats only 4 years old. They are trying to make a quick buck. I hate these bezel killers that melt these gorgeous royal oak bezels and damn near make them round. Its a crime. |

Run, if you do a search one member had a similar experience, but this one was at an AD, nothing but problems and waiting more then 6 months, if they over polish the watch.

I always LOL at how people will spend car money on a watch without blinking but then try to save (by comparison) a few percent of the purchase price by doing something risky.
If you can afford a $20,000 watch, why would you go anywhere for service except the manufacturer?
