Day Date 41 vs 40 vs 36. What size do you prefer?

Hi guys,

I know there are a few threads on this topic however I am yet to find a pole with people voting on their preferred size.

Im interested in purchasing a YG DD 36, I have 6" wrists so feel this size is a better fit for me. Having looked into it I feel its actually very split between the 36 and 40mm with people having reasons for liking each.

The 41 seems to most polarising of all, but for me it would look out of place on my wrist

Just wanting to see out of choice which you prefer. I also hope the 36 will be updated soon with a new movement etc.

Out of interest if you vote please comment what you voted for and your wrist size.

Thanks

With 6” wrists you could certainly look at the 36. IMO it would be the perfect fit for you and easier on the pocketbook if you decide to go used. If platinum is your thing, I’d try to locate a 36 wave dial Arabic

Good luck

I have 7.5 inch wrists so if I was going for one I'd probably go for 40. I like how it looks more than the 41 and it is bigger than 36. If I had 6 inch wrists, no doubt, 36.

Day Date 41 vs 40 vs 36. What size do you prefer?

Tried on a vintage 36 Day-date last weekend, unfortunately that’s too small - to my liking - for my 7,25 - 7,5” wrist.

So I would go for a DD40 or DDII ÍF I could find the latter in a decent configuration (which there are not too many IMO) at a reasonable price which again is not that easy :dumbhead:

My wrist is 6.5″ and I find DD40 too large. I also like the Rhodium Stripe Motif dial which is not available on DD36, which I find a tad small.

Will they ever introduce DD38 or 39?

I have several 40+ watches so if I was to buy another DJ it would be a 36 for evening wear.

7.25” wrist, voted 41mm

For your 6”, definitely 36mm

I think DD 36 will look just fine.
DD is relatively easy to find so why not wait and see what this year’s Baselworld has to offer, any update for DD before you make up your mind, unless you’re getting a refurbished one.

I've had two 36 mm Day-Dates (118238 and 18238), of which I vastly preferred the heavier solid bracelet 118238. I sold that watch and bought a Day-Date II in 41 mm. I like that watch more, but I've been eyeing the 40 mm version. Something about the bezel/case/dial proportions of the DD40 look better to me than the Day-Date II.

Those of us with skinny wrists can get away with just about anything, IMO. I like the DD40, but, no wrong answers here.

My wife wears a 40 and she weighs 100 pounds soaking wet. The watch itself is half of her body weight so you can do a 40 no problem!

I prefer the 40 on my 6.75" wrists. If I had 6" wrists, though, I'd go for the 36. While the DD is definitely sporty (as all oysters are), it still leans on the dressy side, and so the 36 on 6" wrists strikes me as just about perfect.

I wonder the same thing. A DD in 38mm would be fantastic. On my 6.25 wrist the 40 is really way to big for me.

For your 6" wrist, just go for a 36mm and do not look back.

With the trend reversing to smaller watches, you will be just fine. Even if the trend of large watches continues, the DD36mm is a classic.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again: I've often thought, "That watch looks too big on that guy," but I've never thought, "That watch looks too small on that guy."

I have the 36mm now and it fits me perfectly as I have small wrists. I am interested in looking at a 40mm to see how it might fit but very happy with the 35mm.

i went the 40mm route.
i find 36mm is to small for me.
41mm to me personally the proportions look off.
40mm is very similar to 36mm in proportions wise but with bigger diameter.
41mm or DD2 looks like a rolex hiccup IMHO

i have around the same size wrists also and went with a 36. i tried on a dd40 and while the lugs don't hang, to me it looked ridiculous due to all the gold

you'd be fine with a sub or daytona but with a dd it's better to go smaller than bigger

some pics :

I have small wrists (6.5). I think the DD40 is the best fit for me. I can wear 36, but visually for me, a 40 looks better.

7.25 in wrist and 36 mm for me. Would do a 40 in WG. Just get what you love!

smaller appears more popular. Interesting how these 36mm's can be had at good discounts, small watches aren't in fashion, but in time I'm wonder if that will change.

For me 40 works best but for your wrist size go 36 (i also prefer 36 for platinum).

DD40 hands down. Perfect for anything 6.5 - above. The proportions are right, the updated movement, the updated bracelet ceramics and the dials are awesome.

I loved them so much I had 3 of them already. Perfect for my 6.75inch wrist.

DD2 no question. The new 40 is too small frankly.

I would wear it as an everyday sports watch FYI

That's probably why I feel this way...

I personally like the 41 as it feels more modern. The 40 is great too but the day date always looked a bit old school for me under 40 mm
