Vintage 1.9mil serial GMT 1675. Help!!!
A friend of mine has come by with a pretty cool watch. I'm not really schooled on the older watches, and this one has a couple things that looks odd to me, so hopefully the experts can help out. He's wanting to upgrade to a sub and has offered it to me for what I believe to be a fair price. It looks right to me, but can someone confirm? I know the stem isnt right. It is running a little slow. He does not have the original bracelet. What's the approximate value? Thanks in advance for the help!

If you're serious about jumping in keep in mind that with vintage, the dial is most of the value of the watch. From this pic of the dial, I can't tell what is on the crystal and if anything is on the dial itself. The E in Rolex could be an issue and some of the lume at 4-6 o'clock appears partially washed.

What would be a fair number to give him?

As you probably know already, solid examples sell in the general neighborhood of $15k, give or take a few thousand. This is not at that level IMO. As mentioned above, condition issues dictate the exact value, and those are not easy to discern from the photos. But without a bracelet and with the incorrect crown and missing lume, I would be careful not to overpay. It has potential, but needs some effort and money to make it right. What is the asking price? We can probably tell you if it's a steal.

Personally I don’t want to pass judgement on condition every time as most watches posted on this forum are used and abused. From the pics I can’t see that the dial is washed so that stands for you. I see an honest and used watch that isn’t perfect that has the parts that can be expected from this serial.

The condition is kind of what I like, to be honest. To me, that's character. So it doesnt hurt my feelings, to get the constructive criticism LOL. He wants 9500.

Sounds pretty fair to me. Check the dial as Tom thought the lume was cleaned away. I can’t see it but I am on a phone while travelling. Application during this era is sometimes sloppy so dont panic if it isn’t perfect under 10x. Lume normally lights up under UV from these years. Kind of close when it stops to glow but that is what I would expect. Is the mark on the Long E in Rolex on the crystal or dial?

The blemish is on the dial. Kind of a rust color :( the story on it is pretty neat, kind of sad, but neat. Was a 1 owner till my buddy got it. Bought it new while being in the Air Force out in Cali. Wore it everyday, until my buddy got it a few weeks back. Was only sold to help make his final preparations

I was trying to be careful not to pass judgement as well with my wording b/c the pic isn't great, but the concerns I mentioned were things I could kind of see... The mark was a larger concern than the lume. The mark is in fact on the dial so that's your call. It would bother me. $9500 with a damaged dial like that, meh. |

I appreciate complete honesty, in a tactful form. Lol. I'll lr9b pass on this one for myself, and throw it up for him to see if he can get a trade for a sub. if you know anyone, let me know!
