Walked into the USA through JFK in 5 minutes last night coming from Europe. Global Entry is worth it.

The best $100 spent if you travel, even if only once in a while.

It also includes TSA pre-check for when you fly domestically.

Traveling internationally for work as much as I did, sometimes as many as 20 international trips in one year, I got Global Entry as soon as it was available. If you live in the USA and travel abroad, it’s the best money you will ever spend.

Whaa! Why have I not heard of this sooner?! Just did an international flight last weeks and just about lost it at the customs line. Is the Global entry a yearly fee or one time? This forum is the best

Just kidding Larry !

This will be my 10th year with it and worth every penny especially coming back from abroad. Nice to skip right through pre-check too

EDIT: company issued credit card pays the fees. Actually a lot of credit cards pay the fee now

^ Yup or Citi AAdvantage Excutive Elite card, they will reimburse you for the Global Entry fee (not to mention you can also access their lounges while traveling). I've been a member since 2013 (Global Entry). Great program and it's gaining more and more members each year.

Hi Larry,

it's worth just for TSA Pre-Check. I have used it quite a bit. it's re entering the US when it works (at least from my experience). I just traveled to Vancouver last week and when I landed in YVR I had to wait in line with everyone else but when returning to the US there was a global entry line through security. My wife's says you don't need your card but I had to show mine twice coming home for Vancouver.

Please share your Global Entry "ins and outs"

TSA Pre Check is $85.

Global Entry is $100, and includes TSA PC.

No brainer to get GE.

Be forewarned that getting an appointment at certain Global Entry offices can be many months out. SFO is one of the worst. A trick is to schedule an appointment for however many months out it is, then check back as often as possible to see if cancellations result in appointments becoming available sooner.

Or if you know you’ll be in another city that has a GE ofc during a certain timeframe, check that office for appt availability.

I would advise against losing it at the customs line.

Fortuitously, an article in a local newspaper about the backlog for new and renewal Global Entry applications mentioned that there’s an Enrollment on Arrival option:

Quote:
Instead of scheduling a required personal interview at one of the agency's 109 enrollment centers, applicants who have been conditionally approved can complete their Global Entry enrollment during CBP processing at a primary inspection booth at 49 airports without a scheduled appointment.
Apparently, this became available in 2017. My family and I all got GE in 2016.

I used my Amex plat for precheck too, it expires in feb 2020 and will do GE instead. Wonder if Amex will cover the fee...?

Agreed. It's a blessing. Unless you're traveling through JFK. THere are no blessings there.

Don’t forget to renew passport at anytime up to 6 months of expire. Most countries require at least 6 months remaining on US passport upon entry into many foreign country Incase of health or legal issues.

You can do it anytime prior expire if you want, I had 6.months remaining. I sent mine in May and had a family emergency within 2 days after mailing in and needed to get to Brasil pronto and had to fly out of US within 2 days after mailing the current one. No time to expedite so thanks to State Department officials used one called Official Passport issued to officials of the U.S. Government traveling abroad to carry out official duties, and did a small task ( took samba lessons and drank cachaca again ) while there to cover any issues. Also no more Visa required for Brasil for American citizens on 17 June 2019. I received a emergency visa waiver early due to this emergency.

I had zero issues! Including my wife claiming a new purse and customs telling her to have a great night instead of sending her to the duties desk.

Misspoke. What I meant was - global entry took 2 minutes. My luggage coming in - another 2 hours...

Global Entry - A Must When Crossing International Borders

Finally!

I had an in-person interview with an agent at the California/Mexico Otay Mesa Boarder Crossings Office today. I will finally be getting my Global Entry Status in the mail in two weeks.

Time to Plan Some International Travel!

If I couldn’t use the diplomatic line, then I’d enroll in global entry.

Yea I did TSA Pre Check a few years ago and didn't realize for the same amount of effort I could have just done Global Entry.

I used the card once, the first time I came through using Global Entry, after that, I've never needed it again.
I find it's airport dependent, coming into Atlanta GE was a blessing, while coming into Dallas, I find GE has longer lines since they updated the regular lines to customs kiosks, they have like 40 of those things and there is rarely a line, at least during my travels.

It's still worth it to have. Think mine is up for renewal actually.
