For me I still prefer the 5712... The dial and case size is mesmerizing. Both are great but the 12 can’t be beat...

If you look at the 2 watches side by side, the 12 is just more refined...the case is not as thick, perfectly proportioned and I don’t mean just front bezel portion of the case,...the case portion where the lugs are as well as the bracelet. Everything on the 5990 is just ever so slightly fatter. The ears on the left side which is the travel time pushers is noticeably fatter. Hence whyI call it the fat kid.

If Rolex designed a nautilus...this would be it.

I do enjoy wearing it... it’s a more substantial watch... feels more of a daily for the rigorous desk diving I do. Whereas the 5712 is the watch to take home to mom or a nice event.

The wife also prefers that over the 5990 now too.

I was heckled a while ago for saying so....but i still think of the 5990 as the ‘Offshore (a la the original Beast)’ of the Nautilus family lol

And i mean that in a good way, as i have one myself

These Nautilus pictures are getting pretty boring. Let's see the truly unique and exquisite pieces from the real PP heavy hitters and collectors on here with their minute repeaters, tourbillons, and astronomical complications and the like.

Another 5711. Yawn.
Another 5712. Yawn
Debate differences between 5711/12. Yawn.

When my AD calls me in 4 years I’ll take it right away, but this forum is proof positive the Nautilus is not a rare piece and can be manufactured just as easily as a Calatrava or AC.

Let’s hear from the true PP collectors with impressive collections defined as actually expensive by PP themselves at MSRP and not just the gray market, whose pieces are tremendously difficult to manufacture and have the utmost rarity. Pieces that don’t even have waitlists, because Most on here could never afford them at MSRP even if given the opportunity. THOSE are the pieces I want to see.

There’s a debate going on right now over in the AP forum about a damaged Royal Oak link and people are literally saying the guy has a screw loose, haha. Brutal

I edited my post to add some points to drive the point home I suppose.

I love the Nautilus, it is a classic. I bought a Vacheron Constantin Overseas AND a Royal Oak just because I can’t get my hands on a Nautilus and I wanted a piece designed by Genta. I am truly envious of those whose numbers have come up at dealers or bought prior to the crazy demand. But just like the Royal Oak is the same Royal Oak and is boring to look at day after day, so is the Nautilus, but I will definitely own one when my AD calls.

To be fair, there are regular sightings of 5370 and 5270 here as well. I recall seeing a celestial only recently

500k watches and up are not sold in the 1,000s. They are rare birds indeed.
