I just wonder>>>>>>
How many people buy a Rolex that they really don't want? I can imagine that this is not entirely unusual in view of the availability.
No one will admit it because they just have to have a Rolex.

I think especially in the current state of affairs that this is definitely happening. People walking into an AD, seeing a SS Rolex that they previously didn't really want and end up buying it because of the availability issues and high grey market pricing.

A new buyer might be underwhelmed with the selection at their AD, but most people will only buy a Rolex only if they like it.
Remember. WISs do not reflect your normal buyer. |

I’m sure it’s always been the case and probably even more so now with the onslaught of social media.

More and more by the day. It’s pushing me back towards Panerai and other brands where it is more about the watches, and less about the “look at me, and the investment on my wrist”!

I want all 6 of mine, I don’t need any of them (except for two of the 6 as they were my fathers). I have been trying to buy and 116719 BLNR for over a year from an AD..that ship has sailed with the release of the new BLNR. I don’t necessarily want 116610LV but if I fell into it I would buy and wear it, not flip it. I want a 126710 BLRO but that is another pipe dream. I wear all my watches, daily, the only one I selectively wear is my dad’s 116520.
I guess I fall into the glory days/mythos of Rolex. The bespoke gentleman/explorer is who I identify most with, coming from someone who is 36....I always think of someone like use “tomuchtalk” as a true Rolex user. |

I am sure many buy Rolex for what the name represents, rather than what the watch is . . . .

I have bought easy to get models I liked in the hopes I could get harder to get references I liked.
It worked.

I bought a Bluesy 16613 though I really wanted a 16618.
Based on the advice of members, better to enjoy this while i save up for the all-gold. Does this count? |

When I bought my gmt it was originally bc I had damage to my day date 40 and at the time it was my only watch as I had sold my entire collection to move up to 40/41mm watches and the gmt was offered to me under retail (this was 4 months ago) at first I didn’t like it much or care for sports steel watches but I travel so much that opinion quickly changed (hate banging gold on the seatbelts and stuff in planes) so I’d say at one point I bought a watch I didn’t want for opportunity but ended up loving the timepiece after a day on the wrist Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

I’m not going to lie, I’ve thought about and been close to buying a Rolex I don’t want just to build a relationship with my AD and get the Rolex that I do want. After a second thought, I realized how dumb that would’ve been.
