Datejust out of sync
Hi I am new to this forum and in a bit of a panic.
I have a 35 year old Datejust which I bought a year ago. Up to now it has been reliable and keeps excellent time gaining around four seconds in 24 hours. Recently I have noticed the second hand and minute hand have come out of sync. ie. Set the both up to be correct and within a few minutes the minute hand has gained 30 sec. When the second hand is on twelve the minute hand is now between the minute marks. i thought this could not happen. Help please. |

Hands
Could be of course but I doubt it. The movement is progressive. and proportional. if the hands were loose it would be random.
If any questions are asked or advice given dont think I am being ignorant and ignoring. I am off on a holiday Thanks. |

This is not uncommon, simple set the minute hand to between two minute markers and it will line up fine. I've seen this on several vintage pieces, but also on 16610. It's like the minute hand waits 20-30 seconds before it starts moving after the watch has been stopped/hacking.

There is a certain amount of slack in the minute hand before it catches up – you’ll notice it when trying to set it. As above, trial and error, let the watch run for a minute and if your happy close it – otherwise re-set and try again ….
