DJ 16013 - Permanent Damage

I have a 35 year old DJ that I have had since new. I have worn the watch daily for most of it's life. I've noted that the watch is currently losing about 16-18 seconds per day. I went back and looked at the service records and realized that it was last serviced in 1999! I want to make sure I do not do any permanent damage by continuing to wear it. Should I: 1) put it in the watch case until I am ready to have it serviced, 2) wear it as usual, or 3) have it serviced immediately?

If you are going to have it serviced --- "soon" --- wearing it for a bit more is not likely to cause any more undue issues.

It is likely that the mainspring is also badly weakened by now, but that is a disposable part and is almost always replaced as a matter of preventive maintenance at service.

However, it definitely needs service and I would not let it go too long for that.

An advantage is it will now receive more modern, more robust lubricants.

You’re not going to “damage” it by continuing to wear it. It’s overdue for a service though.

I’ve seen the axel on the rotor wear from lack of lubrication and the weight of the rotor tilts enough to hit the top of the movement and scratch it. Sometimes the axel breaks and will also scratch the movement. I’d send it for service.

Permanent Damage? what a click bait thread.

2nd- How could you permanently damage a watch? You do know it is man made....there are replacement parts around the world for Rolex's LOL

3rd- unless you had a one of one Rolex, then YES its originality might be gone but there is always replacement parts to be made/sourced

All of the damage that it has already incurred is permanent damage.

During an overhaul (service) all of the damaged parts are replaced; that's the whole point in a service.

I would have it serviced sooner, rather than later, while Rolex still has all of the replacement parts in stock.

Service it as soon as you can. No need to worry about permanent damage.
