A great memory from a late Friday afternoon 14,000 ft. over Florida. It was taken by Gus Wing, one of the greatest aerial photographers of all time and a incredibly nice guy and mentor. Sadly, he died a couple of years ago.

There millions of these!
Mine is a photo taken by my youngest son. The ripple was the first from our dog which had jumped into the pond about 100ft away. Son and dog memories.

That is one of the coolest pictures I have seen here. I want to try skydiving at some point. Sorry about the loss of your friend. Was it from sky diving?

Thank you, it was a really memorable day. Gus was one of the nicest and most knowledgeable people I'd known in the sport, and one of the safest. He'd always take time out to help make sure you were safe too. On that jump, there was a malfunction below us and he followed the jumper down and landed in a very treacherous airport industrial area to make sure he was okay. A couple of years ago he was hit by an airplane in mid-air, piloted by a friend. It was a very tragic accident. Unfortunately, after 20 years in the sport, I can no longer count on both hands the number of people I've known who have died.

Here's a nicely done memorial site which also has some of his great photographs. http://www.guswing.com/

good thread by the way... a nice way to mark my 1500th post...

i chose my avatar because it includes:

1. the anti-nuclear emblem or the peace sign which is widely known;

2. less well known.. the diva lamp which symbolises a significant sikh festival, "diwali" or the festival of light... whereby divas are lit, which are cotton-like string wicks inserted in small clay pots filled with coconut oil, to signify victory of good over the evil...

Self portrait taken around 0230 local time while sitting in my UH-60 Blackhawk waiting for a PAX load at FOB Cobra in Baquaba, Iraq, summer of 05. I was able to stretch my arm out because we had taken the cockpit doors off due to the extreme summer heat.
