Sleeping late... trip to the spa... some great meals with my husband

A day without any obligations.....

The sun is warm, the sky is blue, the beer is cold, the conversation is witty and stimulating, the bills are paid, the bank accounts are full of money, the health and vitality of myself and my loved ones is strong, business is good, the economy is strong, my money is making money, and our soldiers are at home enjoying victory with their loved ones, and the hand of the Lord is on us. That is a good day.

A day with "nothing planned"
I have a few of these at the lake in the summer
Wake up with the sunrise.
Coffee, kalhua & Baileys on the dock.
Silence. No water skiers, just nature.
Once the toys come on the lake, retreat back to the deck in the shade.
Few beer, maybe a hike, maybe a quad up the mountains.
Sit with some friends & family.
No pressure to talk. Just enjoy each others company.
Read a book, maybe, maybe not.
BBQ for dinner. Maybe a beer, margarita or wine as each feels fit.
Get the fire pit ready for sunset.
Fire to keep the chill off.
Another cabin coffee.
Let the fire die down.
Grab some blankets, lay on the dock ( Mid August), watch the meteor showers. Sip a scotch on the rocks.

Repeat as necessary.

This is my sanity. Right now, in the throws of my busy season, so looking forward to these days at the lake.

Top down in our Roadster on a 75 degree spring Saturday with my wife, hitting antique shops and AD's along the way. Then stumbling on to an obscure but fabulous Mexican food place for lunch.

To day was it. Last Sunday my wife's mother had a stroke. She is 77. They operated on her Monday to remove a blood clot in her brain after a few complications everything looks good. My wife and her family have grown apart from each other over the years and this brought everyone togeather. I think things are going to be a lot better. We had a get togeather today and all my wifes brothers and sister were there (5 brothers and 1 sister, there spouses 15 childern between them my wife and I and 5 of our 6 kids) it was like old times. You get rapped up in your everyday lives and it's easy to not get togeather like you should. She learned a lesson this week and so did I. Family is important, take the time

For years I had a perfect day every wednesday in Philly.

1. Get together with a bunch of guys and get shoe shines at "Cliffs" first.
2. Then go to "Black Cat" and pick up some cigars.
3. Then get lunch at "Morton's of Chicago".
4. Then go back to the burbs and play a small impromtu golf tournament.

Don't get that here in "State College", but I can always say "been there, done that".

Of course I would like to have company with me and would like to go by the sea and just watch at the deep blue color of the sea/sky and just let myself relax

Hmm, since I dont work and sit on my ass all day and do nothing anyway.....
My perfect day would be watching T.V. when they call out winning numbers for the lotto
and finding out I won 10 million dollars in the state lotto ....or more.

So true! Reminds me of last summer when the power went out. The kids were panicked wondering how we were going to survive with no lights, no TV, or video games! We lit candles and played games for the next two hours. We laughed, sang some songs, and I even taught the boy how to play a few chords on the guitar. Life was good, we were all connected! Then all of a sudden the power came back on and things went back to normal..........

When we lost power from hurricane ike for 4 days I just about died....heat...humid.....bugs......another reason I HATE TEXAS

I had a few perfect days last summer on a a Greek island.

Would wake up early, feel and breathe in the cool morning air and watch the sun rise over the sea.

Before 8, walk to the beach and have a swim.

Come back and have a hearty breakfast on the terrace overlooking the bluest waters of the Med Sea.

Get in the hire car and explore a part of the island i hadn't been to before (including caves, beaches, little villages, churches, castles/fortifications etc.)

Stop at a small cafe/taverna and eat a good lunch.

Go back home and have an afternoon nap or siesta (this would normally be the hottest part of the day between 2-5).

Get up and go go for an late afternoon/early evening swim in a calm, clear sea.

Meet up with family friends and head out to a taverna.

Eat, drink, have stimulating conversation until the late hours.

Star gaze whilst listening to the gentle sound of the waves with my wife.

Repeat.

Decent Lie in.

Brisk morning walk around the Royal Sandringham Estate.

Drive to the coast. Look around some old bookshops, antique stores and one of my favourite vintners.

Lunch at the Lifeboat Inn. Perhaps a salad made with local duck or pheasant.

Move on afterwards to Wells Next to Sea. Let William run around on the beach, look for sealife in rockpools etc. Get some photos and video of him.

Fish and Chip supper on the quay as the sun goes down.

Jim, it's been my experience through life that often some of the best things happen as a result of the worst circumstances. You are so right....nothing is more important than family. Glad to hear things are turning around for you.

• 3+ hour round
• A post round beer in the clubhouse while settling the friendly wagers (more for the banter than for the beer)
• A quick shower and change
• Top down, car clean and shiny
• BlackBerry on "Silent"
• Later meeting my wife for lunch at one of our favorite local restaurants
• Bottle of Justin Isosceles, Cain Five or Cakebread
• Her telling me about her morning and then she asks how I played.
• A little window shopping
• A top down drive home
• Relaxing on the deck with our dog
• A light dinner
• A quiet evening
  • Repeat above the next day!!!

Just keeping it in perspective. It's all about sharing time with our loved ones and enjoying our hobbies.
Work/life balance and all that.
