I don't understand all the fuss about the naming of these damaged dials. As long as the dial is properly represented (i.e. clear photos that don't hide the damage) I don't see a problem. If you have a problem with it then don't buy it. No one is forcing you to buy this watch. If someone likes the look and buys the watch then more power to them. What I feel strongly about is when deceptive photos are taken to hide damaged dials, but that's a topic for another day. |

Buy a silver car... It's called "resale silver". Try to sell it... "It's too common". For a funny colour you pay for rarity on the way in, get shafted for an "unpopular" colour on the way out Sent from my Pixel 3 using Tapatalk

Easy does it...the dealer is both reputable and probably has helped expand the market for vintage pieces. We’ve all benefited from this creativity - bubble or not. Much much better situation than peddling something as “slightly worn” when it’s beat beyond repair, as we’ve all seen examples of. I actually enjoy his humor.

Are there some dealers that lowball? Maybe, but in my experience most dealers will pay a fair price, if not the best price for you. That's just the nature of the game. |

They also called vintage DJ dial "London sky"! (others call it "ghost dial")
They are obviously having some fun making up nicknames for different dials.

I think so also. Just a tongue-in-cheek reference (maybe solely to ruffle feathers?). Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I think the more worrisome part would be that he actually paid a premium for said car. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Giving dials these names is a good way for them to get publicity. We're all talking about it, aren't we? My favorite was the 1500 Date with the Electric Cactus dial. They're just having a laugh.

This dealer uses all kinds of names for the condition of their dials. They are well respected as far as I know and have had many, many amazing watches over the years. while some who see these dial names lose their minds (admittedly I have done that at times) others see it as a but of a dealer joke, or a funny sales note. While this dealer may use funny terms for their dials, they are honest enough to not state that a case is unpolished when many others claim every watch they bring in us unpolished.
I think their dial nicknames are just a descriptor like" looks like martian soil" Or "looks like stardust" etc. There was one a while ago that was going around as a "lava dial" that looked like melted red goo. haha I've come to a point where I just laugh at them and don't take them too seriously.

He 100% has to be reading this thread and just straight messing with most of you at this point.
Go look at the new "Blue Moonlight Cloud" dial Datejust.

The dealer absolutely knows what they are doing with vintage watches.
I agree it was a more 'inside baseball' name to the dial to have fun with it, the watch is not for me, but glad someone liked it enough to purchase. |

I guess since it's my watch I'll chime in.
The ridicules nicknames are a way to break up the constant seriousness of the watch world. I thought it was funny after our photographer put it in the add and we kept it. It does not add or subtract value. The dial is clearly worn out from age and moisture and is only appealing to a handful of people. To answer some of your other questions. It is sold and I originally bought it for close to what I sold it for from another dealer. Watches are about bringing joy into your world not negativity. |
