That's just the way it is in this current SS craze. Cant really blame or be surprised that this business is trying to maximize their profits.

My wife not only likes watches but jewelry as well (daughter also likes earrings) so we go to our local AD with that. Occasionally she buys bracelets, necklaces and earrings. She also has a couple DJ31's You can guess the rest.

its the worst strategy overall if you like other brands.... unless the AD that operates it has multi brand stores in the same market. in which case just use the multi brand store.
Its often the same exact AD that is running jewelry departments at other locations and you better believe they look up what you have bought

Could be different depending on where you live... Personally yes I've bought jewelry from my AD... Whether or not it helped me get my DaytonaC in 3 months is debatable as I had a good relationship w/ the manager and I stop in often to talk even if not buying anything. Always treat the Staff as people and not someone there to serve me. In total all within 2.5 years from 1st purchase to last purchase...
Plan on more eventually... |

I would say a Daytona C in 3 months is beyond a decent relationship!! Considering that most of us will wait somewhere between years and having go into cryo sleep.

Screw that - why would I buy something just to get the sacred opportunity (supposedly) to buy something? And then just - what - wait?
I went Grey - paid a small premium - watch is on my wrist - moving on. Ben |

Yep they only bring out the steel pieces from the back for their best customers or grey dealers willing to pay over list. |

Unfortunately, human nature being what it is: Means + Impatience (I want it NOW)= Excessive Prices on the grey market. We do have some power to control this situation, we just choose not to exercise it. |

I try to stay loyal to my AD. When my wife or daughter want jewelry I go there first. They know who butter their bread.

This must sadly be what it's come down to in the UK...
Here in the US we have ADs that give SS models to people with zero history. Not that many but they exist

I bought diamond earrings from my AD but the jokes on them, they were easily 50% cheaper than Tiffany’s. It did ultimately get me a Batman though.

Quality of diamond? Cut, color, clarity, carat? Non-lab grown? Tiffany's price is a lot of branding. What brand was it? Jewelers can source lesser known brands at half of the retail price.

The ADs are smart. They know they can treat people like garbage and many will do whatever it takes to be one of the crowd and get their steel toy.
It is actually getting quite amusing.. Yes my wife needed the 55 carat diamond at full retail. Who cares.. It got me my Explorer 1. And.. The AD said if I buy another diamond, I can be put on the list for another steel model.. Worth every penny. I say good on the ADs. Take every penny you can from people that will let you. |

My AD doesn’t even sell jewelry. Maybe try looking for an AD like that?

If I was an AD I would only bundle with jewellery or PM watches of other brands now, most I know have been burned too many times by pretend buyers or those who had good intentions but soon succumbed to the high profits on offer, so I would just lock in the most profit I could now and not see the amateurs make more profit than the professionals.

I think there are all different types of ADs. Those like the OP mentioned who flat out will tell you that you need to buy other things and then there's mine who never mentioned buying anything as a requirement to be "bestowed" a SS model. However, my wife and I did end up buying diamond earrings (not because of a Rolex wish) as well as a Tudor and have not heard a thing about available steel models. Contrast that with my Rolex boutique, who got me my Sub in about 3 months.
Because I generally like my AD, I'm going to assume that they allocate their rare models without regard for customer spend history. Either that or they really don't like me lol |

I hope by now everyone realizes that each AD has their own separate policy how they treat the scare models.

You bought these other watches under a hope of obtaining harder to get pieces like you said (for a Hulk).
Now they are just telling you they want you to purchase more unwanted crap. The grey dealer would have saved you money in the end. Sent from my SM-G925V using Tapatalk |

I have been told, in no uncertain terms by my AD, that if I want more desirable Rolex then I need to be buying some jewelry. I have bought a full PM, amongst others, just for reference.
The economy slow down willl turn the tables. |

AD's keep a record of every penny that you spend there.
But it is not the AD that you should cultivate. You need to find a Sales person that you like and do ALL of your business with that single person. They all work competitively and will go to you as much as you will go to them when you desire a piece of anything, including a watch. All those photos and plaques with "Million Dollar Club" etc., around the room is what they are working for, including the bonuses that come with them.
