Mailing to RSC Question
Is it ok to use one of the USPS boxes and USPS marked clear tape? I know they request the brown paper tape but one rep at the Dallas RSC said the clear USPS tape available at the post office suffices.
Thanks in advance. |

Maybe things have changed but I’m gonna say no. The instructions they emailed me a couple of months ago specifically say, use brown tape only.
Have you considered just taking the train in to NYC and dropping it off?

See #5 and NOTE
AFTER-SALES SERVICE MAILING INSTRUCTIONS 1.Please remove and complete the bottom portion of the form as shown. The completed form must be included with your watch. Warranty, if applicable) on top of packing material. Please be sure to complete the form legibly, in order to ensure accuracy in our contact records. 2. Package your timepiece using a sturdy box. Watch should be secure and not move. Please do not use the original Presentation Box when sending your watch in for service. We recommend wrapping the watch in a few layers of tissue paper followed by a layer of bubble wrap. 5. Close and secure all sides of the box with brown paper tape. In order to avoid tampering and ensure package integrity: Do not use plastic tape. 3. Fill the box with tissue paper or other packing material. Place watch in the center. The packing should restrict the watch’s movement within the box. R.U.S.A. - 665 Fifth Avenue New York, NY 10022 R.U.S.A. - 2601 North Harwood Dallas, TX 75201 NOTE: Warranty service is subject to technician approval upon inspection of the timepiece. Please include original warranty card. 7. Bring your box to your nearest United States Post Office. Instruct the postal clerk to send the package Registered MailTM, as the sample label above indicates. 8. Declare the replacement value of the watch. This serves as a form of insurance; there is no need to purchase additional insurance. 9. Pay the total postage amount, and retain the Registered MailTM receipt for your records. Your receipt contains the tracking number for the shipment. NOTE: Do not seal the box with any clear or plastic tape or the package will be refused when it arrives due to security reasons.

I used the brown tape to mail mine in a few months ago. I am sure there is a reason for using it, probably more secure, so I would follow their instructions. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Update: Took my package to the post office and informed them I want to send it registered mail.
First thing the postal worker did was break out the brown tape and tape up all the edges that I didn't. When I asked her about it she replied that all registered mail packages have to be taped up with brown tape (doesn't matter the destination - this is USPS procedure). She then proceeded to rubber stamp every single seam where the tape met the box. There must have been 30 rubber stamps on the package. LOL! |

Clear tape is easier to peel and restick. Brown typically tears, thus indicating tampering.

Yep - and thanks for sharing that info. Rolex tries to help customers by providing the process info that USPS has for securing Registered Mail. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro

Rolex RSC only accepts USPS Registered Mail.
The Post Office makes the rules for Registered Mail, not Rolex.

Use brown PAPER tape, that's important-- most people don't have that laying around. When USPS stamps the tape when shipping Registered Mail, the ink on the stamp would smudge on the plastic tape, but it prints perfectly on the paper tape.

I recently sent FedEx Priority Overnight to RSC Dallas and they accepted no problem. Like others mentioned, the brown paper tape is also a must for them to accept it. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

If you look at the Rolex Mailing Instruction sheet above, it also says "Registered Mail Only" Wouldn't hurt to call the RSC desired and ask what they accept.
