Does people really recognize your full white gold or plat Rolex?

just wondering, since rolex white gold and ss are so similar, are those non-watch people really notice that's a very expensive 18k white gold watch? becasue I was think buying the 116509 blue dial daytona...or should I just get 116508 yellow gold black dial ? since we have no way to find green-yellow gold daytona in any AD

So you want to make sure others recognize your watch as a gold Rolex? Got it.

If you want people to notice your watch you should get yellow gold with diamonds. I don’t think most people will notice WG or Platinum.

I bought the WG Daytona for the very reason that it passes as steel to most people. It’s the watch I wear most often. I’ve taken it on vacation and worn it in places I maybe shouldn’t have. I take the subway every day. Nobody notices. But occasionally when I’m around watch people I’ll get a nice compliment. What matters is that I love it. I love the weight of PM. And I’ll never get tired of looking at the dial.

People like white gold because it's stealth wealth

Aloha,

My friends who don't know watches were surprised when another friend recognized my yellow gold daytona as real gold. I believe the comment was "everybody has a gold color watch"

My WG DD40 gets less attention than any other rolex I have owned and there have been many more than I care to admit.

Safer to just get the rainbow daytona. Or the leopard.

I would just come straight out and tell everyone that you are wearing a White Gold sports Rolex. That way you know you will be safe, as every watch thief in the world knows everybody and his dog is only interested in the Stainless Steel sports models.

I say my DS is white gold so it doesn't get noticed as really being SS !! Works every time.

White metals are bought in the knowledge that no one can tell them apart. I'm afraid.

I owned the White Gold GMT. Was a nice watch but I got bored of it too quickly. People will not notice it at all so if your into a stealth PM White Gold is the way to go.

Yellow gold will be confused with Michael Kors and white gold will be confused with stainless steel. Sometimes you just can’t win

Is this what you want?

Why don't you just go around telling everyone, that should solve your problem.

Years ago I had a great uncle who would put little, "Pure Crap" stickers on the bottom of the nicknacks laying around the house for curious visitors.

OP, you might try a sign, if you're worried.

Among friends it usually comes out what the watch is (ie Pt Daytona). Among others I'd just has soon have a watch fly under the radar to prevent possible risks.Truthfully whether a Rolex is Stainless or PM means little in most non-WIS eyes as a Rolex of any metal is consider a luxury.

I wear both a WG DD40 and PT DD36

Nobody recognises either as being a precious metal.

I like it that way.

This, and my 509 story is exactly the same.

I'd love to know where I can get a 509 for 18k! That would be my lucky day. I paid over 30K out the door with a nice discount. Heh.

I’m currently into SS

One day I will get some PM pieces, and quite frankly I couldn’t care less what other people think or if they ‘know’ they are PM! Odd question OP

Now, now, let’s not pretend this is a new question or concern. It’s a Rolex so that motive goes along with the brand and some of their demographic buyers. It’s been that way for decades. This is the baggage everyone knows that goes along with the brand.
