What watch did you have on during the most difficult/ challenging time in your life?

Hello friends, what did you have on during the most trying times of your life, and What does that watch represent to you now? Thanks in advance.

Interestingly, I took off my Rolex for over 8 years during a particularly bad phase of my life. When things got better i pulled it out of the safe and it was tight !! who thought my wrist could put on weight. Anyway worn it every day since.

I wear my Rolexes through good and bad, I never take them off. I even sleep with them and wear them in the hospital if they let me.

I bought my TT DJ new from an AD in 1984. I have worn it as a daily watch ever since then, except when it was getting serviced. It’s seen the best of times and the worst of times. From scuba diving, to manual construction projects, landscaping, weddings, birth of children, foreign travel, everything. I never worried about scratches, unsafe cities, or what it looks like under a magnifying lens.

It should be a part of your lifestyle, not a safe queen.

I tend to wear my Dad’s Daytona when going into a tough or challenging meeting. I use it for inspiration. It reminds of him and he was my “Superman”.

Tag Heuer kirium was the watch I was wearing when I responded to the WTC on 911. The watch was an engagement gift from my wife. It's a 36mm quartz that now seems a little too small for me to wear. It was my go to watch before I got my first Rolex. A few years ago I had it resized for my son and gave it to him. I think he was 11 or 12 at the time. He was so in awe that he was afraid to wear it and keeps it in a little safe he has.

The worst times were also the best for me, which I suppose speaks to my life in general and how lucky I am.

Anyhow, bought my Hulk shortly after getting married and shortly before having my first child. My wife had a pretty rough child birth, so she was out of commission for a while and it was overall a rough transition into parenthood. We also decided after her maternity was over to move. So my son was getting moved around a lot between the city and suburbs and he basically didn't sleep for the first 10 months. Was literally up every night, every 45m, for 10 months.

At the same time my dog of 14 years wasn't doing so well and died around the time my son turn 11 months. While it was an amazing time in our lives, it was a really hard year. Had the hulk on daily for that, which always made me smile.

My wife bought me a Luminox Navy Seals watch for my med school graduation. Wore it my entire residency. Tough years but I wouldn't trade that time or watch for anything. I never wear it now but still put new batteries in it whenever it needs them.

Wore my Oris TT1 every day for 8 years, through the highest of highs (ran with the Olympic torch) and the very lowest of lows (watching cancer suck the life out of a loved one) and everything in between.

While I have moved on to my BB Blue as an every day driver, the Oris will always remain as a totem to my most impact experiences as a younger man.

Been wearing a Rolex for 24 years now. So plenty of greats and not so greats. A few that stick in the memory.

Wore my Sub for my Wedding and for my Daughter being born which were great. Wore it in Iraq and Afghanistan, with all the attendant dramas which wasn't so great.

Wore it rushing home from Iraq for my Mother dying. Bought my SD when i popped out to get a new shirt for my Mothers funeral.

Was wearing it for the birth of my Son a month after my Mam passed and also again in Afghanistan. Always think of the SD as my Sons watch and as such its put away for him now.

Was wearing my DJ36 when I got a call that my home was burning.

It was a tough situation. In the middle of it all, I noticed that my watch and I just shared a huge memory.

My Oris Aquis Date. Was on my wrist for best times of my life and some of the most stressful. I don’t wear it much anymore but at the time when it was my only watch it went with me everywhere!

In my worst time I was wearing my UTS MÜNCHEN Adventure (left in the picture). I really love it and a lot of memories.

I probably won’t be wearing a watch. However, I wear my cross around my neck everyday. And if I had a watch on, I’ll wear my SS 36mm DJ. Because it’s the first Rolex I bought. Was on my wrist when I got married. And it’s simple, and low key. Yes, by today’s standards it’s small. However, I live a simple, and humble life. Just like my DJ.

I, too, own a 36mm DJ, now over 20 years old (16203, 2-tone with tapestry dial). I’ve worn this piece at moments of achievement and accomplishment as well as during moments of trial and tribulation, both personally and professionally. After all, the struggle is part of our story and helps define character. The 36mm DJ remains a timepiece which boasts understated elegance, a model which will never go out of style. To you and all fellow TRF members: may you all wear your timepieces well and in good health.

SBWOLLMAN, well said, thank you. Funny my SS DJ white dial is also 20 years old. Back when watches were supposed to be elegant and classy. Not the new trend of bigger is better. I have a SS Submariner/date too that I hardly wear. I think it’s because it attracts attention. I prefer something subtle. My Seiko Sarb033 is my other go too piece.

Awesome. My wife bought me the same watch before my deployment to Iraq in 2004-05. I wore it every single minute of that deployment and for several years after until she bought me a GMT II Coke for a big promotion about 8 years ago. I don’t wear the Luminox anymore but also make sure the battery is changed every so often to keep it running. Will pass that watch onto my son one day!

my 16710 with the pepsi insert got me through a severe case of work induced ptsd. maybe saved my life with the desire to pass it on to my son

I've been through some very challenging and difficult times in my life and the only thing I can say is that whatever watch I may have been wearing, if I was wearing one at all, it wasn't a Rolex.

My Rolex watches are landmarks along an eleven year stroll through my golden years and so far, things have been better than I could have ever imagined, given what I had to go through to get here.

But, you know, it's all relative.

Had on a 1992 TT Datejust with blue Arabic/jubilee dial for my wedding. Bought the wife matching for first anniversary. Wore it through 2 years of marital counseling after 10 years together. It’s in a safe now and sees very little wrist time. I’d get rid of it but it has special meaning as dad gave it to me for a graduation. Thankfully, life moves on. My wife of 13 years and I have 2 beautiful children. I now wear a Batman gmt2 she got me for my 40th
