These really are nice watches!
I don’t wear this very often but I do, it always amazes me how comfortable and beautiful these “old school” Rolexes are. I’ve had this for 31 years now. 34mm Oyster Perpetual Date with the engine turned bezel. My parents gave it to me for graduating university. I think of my Dad every time I put it on. He’s been gone for almost 20 years.

Absolutely a beauty. And a classic.
Wear in good health. It’s cool you’ve had it for so long.

That's really nice. Incidentally, why did the name change from Date to DateJust?

They say Rolex watches come with a story. I say that’s true. I love those vintage pieces.

They’re slightly different. A Date is only 34 mm. A DateJust is 36mm. Same movements though. I didn’t know that until I learned it on this forum.

Nice story and beautiful watch. There's something meaningful about wearing a watch your dad's physical movements once powered. Here's my dad's 1984 DJ I inherited two years ago.

Mine is from 1988. The AD it came from just gave up its Rolex affiliation a couple of years ago. They couldn’t afford to keep Rolex on with the state of the supply issues and the demands Rolex had. I still buy my Omegas from them. Great people. It’s nice to have a classic watch like this.

I totally agree with you. Bought mine in early 1990. Wear them for about thirty years and have just purchased last month my second from Rolex while on vacation (unplanned purchased from AD). Great watches.
