They may have noticed other companies starting to use the word and they wanted to make sure that they owned the rights to it. Possibly for a future release. If not Rolex then possibly in the Tudor line.

Maybe it is used for a new milsub as the anniversary of the Submariner next year.

I was hoping to keep the lid on this until Basel, but since the cat’s out of the bag already..

This is the Milgauss-Submariner. Syloxi anti magnetic movement, sub super case and the iconic lightning bolt hand.

That would be incredible. Currently the application stands rejected over us 4736630 for the identical mark for watches. Perhaps this was intended to provoke a dispute with the owner of that mark? Or not.

Interesting. Rolex was certiainly the first milsub, but then there has been later brands to use it as well. It's an identifier not a trademark, so this should be an interesting court battle. Nevertheless, I am in for one for sure. Here is rolex info on one original milsub.

It’s for one numbered watch and will be the millionth Sub produced, to be auctioned off in that one-off charity auction.

Did Rolex ever use the term milsub in marketing or sales or was it a term bestowed by collectors, like Kermit or Smurf or Hulk (all Sub nicknames)? If it was bestowed by collectors, then perhaps Rolex never used the term in a trademark sense. The current registration holder is making (or was making) “sub” style watches under the name milsub. Check out his specimen in the trademark file. The current owner may not be using mark. Who is to know? But check back in December when the reply is due to see what Rolex does.

Also if a milsub does debut at Basel 2020, TRF will go bananas in anticipation.

If Rolex comes out with a milsub, the grey market will be insane. Daytona C prices will finally level out.

Recent Rolex trademark: "MILSUB"

There is an interesting read about the upgraded 3235 movement. the current sub lineup (date) has the 3135 and the 3235 came out in 2015. It is now in the pearlmaster, and then was used in the new sea dweller, as well as the new DJ41 from last year. Looks to me like a new watch has been added each year the movement has been out, starting in 2015 with the pearlmaster, sea dweller and then DJ41. Here is a good read about it:

https://beckertime.com/blog/the-rolex-caliber-3235-2/

My guess is this year there will be an introduction of another watch, as Rolex ramps up production of this movement and sells out the 3135.

From my research, the 3135 has been in the following watches: Submariner, Sea-Dweller, Deepsea, Yacht-Master, Datejust. It seems that EVERY watch now has the new movement EXCEPT for the Submariner. THE 3235 is now in the Datejust 41, Datejust 36, Sea-Dweller 43, Deepsea, Yacht-Master 40, and Yacht-Master 42.

Ignoring for a second HYPE, MARKETING, NEW COLORS/DESIGNS, ETC, from a business and efficiency perspective, the next stop is the submariner. It makes zero sense for a company to continue to produce one watch using that movement. Considering they probably already re-tooled their production line and movement line, it doubt they are even producing the 3135 at this time. My guess is they left the submariner to be updated last in this product line and to use up remaining inventory of the 3135, which i am sure there are thousands sitting on the shelf, given they have switched over to the new movement already. I am assuming that the sub will be updated this year or next year, based on movements already produced... and only Rolex will know based on the amounts they have sitting on the shelf whether they can make it another 1-2 years selling these watches. Its a numbers game for them, based on the number of Sub sales vs number of 3135 movements left.

just my speculation based on some business logic. i just cant see them using this movement in only 1 watch. I also initially objected to the thought the no date sub would be discontinued, but thinking more and more about it, they would have to develop a new movement for it as well (i.e. 3230, which none of us have heard of). There is a lot going on right now, with an entire movement change for many watches. I am actually thinking the ND sub might not be updated/DC'd for a year or two after the new sub is released, to give them time to produce the new movement, and let them breath with all these movement upgrades, etc. They will then intro it at some later Baselworld. Maybe this will be our MILSUB

i always like to check on anything new and notice on 10/29 they applied to trademark the work "cyclops." On 10/31 they published a patent, cant tell if this is a dial or subdial:

http://pdfaiw.uspto.gov/.aiw?Docid=2...y=49BEA0354DC9

on 10/24 they published a locking system for a chronograph. interesting food for thought.

Note this application was suspended on 12/10/2019 due to the pending cancellation proceeding against the current MILSUB mark, US 4736630.

I'll bet a dollar that Rolex just wants the rights to the name to reign in the homage makers.

The search was expired for the link posted and my search for "MILSUB" turned up nothing.
