Seiko SLA023 MM (& SLA021) beautiful or what?
As a proud owner of an SKX009J and also that I have the blue Pelagos, I'm really liking blue dialled watches, such as the SMP-C Blue & Doxa Caribbean....
I have just today stumbled across photos of a blue Seiko 300m MM online (model SLA 023). It seems really nice, but as always hard to tell from a couple online photos. I was one of the first to embrace the 'expensive Seiko' mentality and bought my first 300m MM (SBDX 001) for 1100 Euros new from Japan. I appreciate these have become more expensive, but still accessible. I must have owned 3 or 4, but ended up selling them to get the next grail or otherwise. I also did not exactly love the bracelet, Hardlex, unsigned crown and bezel. The SLA023 (& 021) look like it improved on some of these issues, all the while introducing the beautiful MEMS method to escapement production. I might be considering one again. Any of you had both the SBDX 001 and the SLA021 and can let me have some thoughts? Better yet any real world photos of the SLA023 or where can I buy one for a good price? I also like the SLA021 (black), but if Seiko got the blue right, I think it will be a winner. Also, anyone knows if this is a Limited Edition? Thanks! |

The one watch I miss the most is my SLA021 which is an all around fantastic watch. The 023 to me looks like a winner.

I have a blue Pelagos and have the SLA023 on order. I had the green version (SLA019), but the green was too much for me. Otherwise the watch is amazing. I think the SLA023 and Blue Pelagos are different enough to own both, but we'll see when I get it.

I am going to my AD this morning to look at the SLA023. I have previously owned the SLA019 and the SLA021 and liked both. The blue on the SLA023 looks great and I saw some pictures from the Seiko Rep at a event at my AD a while back. I also own the Pelagos Blue and will evaluate if both can live in the collection. I will report back and take a few pictures. If the watch is right I will make the purchase.

Went into my AD yesterday to look at the SLA023. I have previously owned the SLA019 and the SLA021 so I am very familiar with the watch and the wear. When my AD showed me the watch, I immediately said lets size it. Great color of blue and this SLA is a keeper for me. At least for a while. My pictures do not do the watch justice but you will get the general feel.

I have always been a fan of the Pelagos and have owned several over the years. My Blue Pelagos is now being evaluated to be moved if the SLA023 is as strong as it appears. I have a 20 plus watch collection so there needs to be some adjusting. I will see but I have grown a bit tired of the Pelagos and it gets almost no wrist time.

That 023 looks so good. I almost got it today as well, but it’s going to have to wait. It’s a great color of blue! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

My SBDX001 has been great. Love the mm300 line.

No reason not to co exist with the Pelagos, which is much more toolish with it's flat blue tone. |

After a brief ownership period I moved my Tudor Pelagos Blue on. While they could easily exist together, I am heavy in blue dial divers and and the funds went for a different watch. I wore the Pelagos very little in the fall/winter. When spring rolls around we will see if I miss it. Hoping for a green dial Pelagos from Tudor.
