Important info request on serial numbers (1.-3. quarters of 2000 and 2002)

The missing information:

I'd like to buy two Rolex watches:

One that was "made" (say: delivered to the AD-s) between the 1st of January and the 30th of September year 2000, and
the other one between the 1st of January and the 30th of September year 2002.

I was searching - mainly on the www - about serial letters and numbers but there is a certain amount of controversy between the few available lists
So now please allow me to turn to this wonderful community with the question: which serials do I have to choose from if I want to be sure that these two watches are "readymade" during these 2x9 months.

(From the data that were available for me it looks like the end (between 9000xxx and 9999xxx) of serial "A" and the first 1/3 (between 0000xxx and 3333xxx) of serial "P" in case of the year 2000 product and
the end (between 9000xxx and 9999xxx) of serial "P", the middle 1/3 (between 3333xxx and 6666xxx) of serial "K" and the beginning (between 0000xxx and 1000xxx of serial "Y" in case of the year 2002 product, but I'm far from convinced.)

So I'd be very, very grateful for any trusted input!
Thank you all very much in advance!
Best regards,
Robert

PS: serial codes of the two matching clasps would be also very nice to know...

The serial number lists like from Bob’s are just estimates, as they are not from the manufacturer.

I’m not sure what you are trying to achieve, but buy from a local and well established brick and mortar store for your first purchase, and you won’t go wrong.

I think I understand the OP’s goal - to buy 2 preowned Rolex watches, each made (or delivered to AD) in the first 9 months of 2000 and 2002, respectively.

And that the existing online serial number lists are ambiguous enough that he can’t be sure. So he asks how to best achieve his goal.

Here are my 2¢...

First, the good news - you can use the first letter and 3 digits of a serial number in those ranges to get fairly close to the year but eliminating the 4th quarter of each year is virtually impossible. The clasp data might help but the dates stamped on a clasp only indicates when it was fabricated - it could be months off from the date the whole watch was put together.

Either way, you would need to rely on the warranty paperwork or card being fully completed with sales date to help confirm the correct year. And still it will be a guess as to when it was add or delivered.

Thank you very, very much for your input! (My goal is to give a graduate present to my daughters who were born just 2 years from each other, at the end of September and at the beginning of October resp. :) the elder one to graduate next spring. They were in their mother's belly during thes 9-9 months each... ) So I have another 6 months or so to go and find. Preferences are full sets, unpolished, EU country codes. First watch can be a Datejust 16200 or 16220, an Ex 1 or a TOG 16264, second watch within those 2 years has to be the same like the first one. (Except dial color and bracelet.) Really I'm even less at home in bracelet clasp codes...

Unfortunately, I’m no help in your search for info, but wanted to say I think the amount of thought you’re putting into these gifts is awesome. You have lucky girls!

Hey OP do you travel to London very much? In the Burlington Arcade in Mayfair there is a watch shop which sells literally thousands of ‘buy your birth year’ Rolexes! Obviously they aren’t going to be amazingly good prices but my god I’ve never seen so much choice exactly dated every single one of them!! Could be perfect sir. P.s definitely a great dad you are!

It is not possible to know this information just by serial numbers. Rolex never sent watches out sequentially and scattered them throughout the world and within models. Charts are only estimates of what could-be, not absolutes.

The only way to find delivery dates is to get your hands on actual inventory/delivery invoices from the various Dealers, a likely near-impossible task.
