Moonphase movements.

The next purchase will have a moonphase movement.

A few I have looked at are the Rolex Cellini, Breguet and A. Lange. I know there isn't much love for the Cellini. Why is that?

For watches in the $25k range which ones would you recommend and why? I am looking for opinions from those that actually have the watch that they are commenting on.

Lange is a good call, so is FP Journe Octa Divine (pre-owned), although you’ll be looking to extend the budget by $5K or so.
Going a bit further on the budget, you could land yourself a De Bethune DB28 Dark Shadow with its 3D revolving moon.
If you want to make it all about the moonphase, and save yourself a fortune, then you can opt for the Arnold & Son Perpetual Moon or Martin Braun Selene.
Next to Lange for finishing is Chopard L.U.C., and there’s some nice moonphase models (past & present) to choose from.
The new Jaquet-Droz Grande Seconde Calendar Moon looks superb, and is well within budget.
Whilst you’ve listed Breguet, don’t overlook what Blancpain has to offer too – from the L-Evolution to the Villeret, with FF/Bathyscaphe in between. And if size is an issue, there’s the 38-39mm Leman option.

I would go with either Lange or Journe, albeit if you are comfortable raising the budget and/or buying preowned. With Lange there is the Saxonia Moon which is more inline with your budget. My preference, however, would be the Lange 1 Moonphase. I think it has more character with a more interesting dial than the Saxonia as well as being a manual wind. The Saxonia Moon is slightly bigger at 40mm, but it just didn’t resonate with me.

The FPJ Octa Moon is also exceptionally nice. The aesthetics are totally different than the Lange, coming across as more contemporary. At 40mm, it wears bigger than the Lange, and is an automatic. I personally feel is requires a gentler touch than the Lange, winding and setting the watch has a very light feel. The Lange in contrast is very crisp and more tactile IMO

I like both, but would lean towards the Lange. I like the tactile feel, the way the dial pops and the way it feels on my wrist. There are other FPJ models I would opt for over the Moon, but it’s still a great watch. I don’t have any experience with the Rolex, so I can’t really say how they would compare.

Not in the 25K range but these JLC, Ultra Thins are my favorite moon phases. Simple design, elegant and the perfect size and thickness, IMO.

Also very much interested in a moo phase for the next model, but wondering about setting the watch. Such a complication is esthetically beautiful, but not very practical... Will you wear it often? Manual wind will require the most workto set.. Lange has the 1815 annual calendar with pushers that make it much more enjoyable if you need to adjust a few days!

The JLC MUT moon is a great choice.

+1 on Arnold & Son Perpetual Moon if you're really about the complication. Christiaan van der Klaauw watches are not bad either.

I love the look of moonphase watches, as it's a very beautiful and romantic complication. The Cellini is a great looking watch but the movement finishing is not really comparable to brands like JLC, Blancpain, Breguet, or Lange, all of which I'd look at if one was looking for a moonphase in the $25,000 range, although it depends if you are looking new or used and what type discount you are wanting.

I ended up with the Cellini. Used with 4 years on the warranty and the stickers still on. I think it had only been tried on. It was the complete package. It even had the sales slip from the AD. It was under $19k.

The dial is amazing and the moonphase is the best. The slightly domed meteorite for the full moon really stands out. I feel the numbers around the dial for the days and the minutes could have been a little larger. I am sure the 3195 movement will stand up to just about anyone's movement. As far as the finish and details, it doesn't matter with the closed back.

The fit is prefect for my 7 1/8" wrist. I would call it a retro elegance. I am glad I added this to the collection.

That's really a beautiful watch, would have been my choice as well between the other models mentioned.
Great deal as well
