Buying from Multiple ADs, Would it affect the relationship?
I recently purchased 2 Rolexes from different AD's both of whom I wished to maintain a good relationship with. The thing is that with one AD I purchased a Breitling and as a result I got the latest SS SeaDweller 43. With the other AD I bought a DJ 40 and as a result I was offered a SS Deep Sea but I declined the purchase.
I am curious to know how my relationship with my AD's would be affected if my AD's are aware that I am buying from another AD as well. Would it spark a friendly competition or would it prevent them from selling more unique pieces. Either ways I plan to help their business based on who comes with the pieces I want first but I don't want my relationship to be spoilt either. What do you guys think and recommend? |

You don’t owe any one dealer any exclusivity. Make them work for your business.

Spread your name far and wide. Whichever AD comes up with the goods first is the winner.

I deal with 2 AD's and it has been advantageous to me. Both offered a Sub though I declined one ( purchase of 1st was 4 days earlier) . My name is on list of my desired models ( I hope ) . They never ask if I deal with other AD. Less talk ,less mistake

Why does one AD have to know about your relationship with the other AD? I operate by two cardinal rules ... Rule #1 - Don't volunteer information. Rule #2 - Don't forget Rule #1. I suggest that you may wish to implement those philosophies.

I deal with two ADs also. I’m nice to both. But I don’t work for them. They work for me. And when they don’t, I’m not tied to them. Always be nice but go where you can get the goods.

I buy my watches from 2 different AD's in Amsterdam. The relationship i have is good. I got a call this afternoon for a batgirl. I have waited 1 week for this one. Always good when you have a backup.

You have multiple ADs. Those ADs have multiple customers. If one were to ever question your loyalty, politely point out the hypocrisy.

Your relationship at a Dealer isn't with the Dealership, it is with a particular salesman. He/she decides who they will let know of the latest offerings because either they like you, or it is money in their pocket. The Dealership is neutral because they make the same from everybody.

Look at it like a competition unless you have no doubt your chosen AD will take care of you..They should both want your business and you'll have double the odds of getting what you want. I wouldn't necessarily tell them of each other though.

I deal with two local ADs as well us trusted sellers here. My AD has seen me wear watches which I have not bought from him. I don’t think he either cares, notices or remembers.

This is very true. I kinda lost interest with one AD that I used to work with because they looked down on me with the whole “why do you want that?!” While inquiring about a Tudor not too long ago. They kept trying to herd me into spending a ton of my money on an hublot; nice watch and all but waayyy too much for me and the value isn’t there.

In today’s market I would not recommend letting each AD know you are buying from their completion.

More dealers, more options. One dealer will always not pull through so you have a backup. Even better if you got half a dozen working to get you pieces.

I feel honesty is the best policy. I have purchased from multiple ADs and I'm upfront about it if asked. If an AD wants to slight me for buying from someone else, then I really don't want to do business with them in the future. How can I trust what they tell me if they are willing to play games like that?
