116618LB Price Increase??

Do you guys think that the 116618LB prices will significantly increase on the secondary market as of Jan 1st.

Deciding whether to pick one up soon or wait for a bit.

Thanks TRF friends and happy new year

I you want to buy it why wait ? Most likely will go up with the same percentage, rather than stay the same or go down in price.

What is significant ?

If MSRP goes up 5% second hand market will follow.

The reason I ask is because I have found that prices always tend to fall a bit after the holidays. Just not sure if the price increase will offset this or not.

According to a watch dealer with a brick & mortar business, price increase is good news for them, cuz they will hike their secondary market prices and they can justify it.

I'd predict a price dip first (after the holidays) and then a slow price rise as the MSRP increase works its way through the used watch market (some of which is individual sellers who don't pay close attention to MSRP changes).

But we're talking a few percentage points regardless. If the watch you want is in front of you right now in good shape for a fair price, I'd just personally just grab it.

I think I am just trying to find a reason to justify pulling the trigger now but honestly am not ready to spend almost 30K for a BNIB.

I tend to be OCD about my watches and have checked out cheaper used models but it is almost impossible to find an immaculate one because the PCLs are so scratch prone.

Will hold off for now especially since I just purchased a datejust for my wife. Hopefully the right 116618 at the right price will become available once the holiday craziness settles down.

The 7.5% retail price increase will probably translates into a similar hike in the secondary market. Too good an opportunity for resellers to let go. That's anything between 1,500 and 2,000 euros/dollars free bonus in their pockets.

I own the Smurf and like all my other watches it has numerous scratches. If you are OCD you should get a Sinn with tegimented steel. It is as scratchproof as you can get.

Prices from TS here on the forum have already shot up significantly from the time I bought mine in July 2017. I paid 25.5K for a BNIB then, and they are asking close to 30K for the same watch now. You will be hard pressed to ever see 25% discount with the current watch market going now. MSRP is going to what? 35,700 vs. 34,250 it has been for years. Buy now or pay more!

If you plan to wear it, it will get scratched regardless. If I were you, I’d go with the less expensive one. Price will always go up as time goes on.

Do you think it’s worth waiting until Basel to see what will happen with the Sub?

Very true. I have always gotten BNIB in the past but might consider going pre owned if the condition is right and price differential is significant enough.

No. People here speculate every year about Basel, and year after year their time on Earth goes by and for what? If you want a certain watch by all means if you have the cash buy it now instead of waiting years for "what if's?"

Fair enough. The amount of Basel speculation on this forum does get out of hand at times. It’s a lot of cash to spend on a watch and I stand conflicted. I do know that I will get it eventually and would kick myself if I had to pay 1-2k more down the line

If the greys are having to pay more due to the price increase, you can assume the prices will rise on the secondary market. It probably isn’t going to happen immediately on January 1st as it may take some time to trickle down to the secondary market.
