It really is a great watch. If I were you I would grab it and not look back. There will eventually always be newer and more updated versions of everything, but so what?
Grab one and enjoy it and make memories with it. |

The current Explorer is a beautiful classic watch. If you want it, get it. If they do decide to change it, then chances are that the new version will not be as nice as the current one.
In other words, if you want it, get it. You will probably not be sorry. |

I'm not convinced that it will necessarily change appreciably other than a new movement.
As far as a down size is concerned. I note that the Swatch watch Jellyfish has just been released in an upsized version. So a downward size trend is not necessarily established. Perhaps Rolex will break some new ground and keep the current size but bring back the 36 or even make it a 34 to better appeal to the female identifier crowd. |

I think it will be updated this year. It's due for a new movement and slimming treatment similar to DDII--->DD40 since this model has been out for 10 yrs with a dial/hands update mid-way. The proportions could definitely be improved and I'm surprised if they just drop a new movement and not new case.

I would like to see the Explorer in two sizes, 38mm for wrist under 6.75”, and 42mm for wrist above 6.75”...................... perfection ! Both available on the Oysterflex.
Until then, many of us will just admire from a distance ......................

I'm a bit curious, that Exp I did not get any price increase for 2020. Might be an indication, that Baselworld 2020 might surprise us with an upgraded model (upgraded movement?)

Certainly a price increase in the UK. I'm hearing an increase from £5000 to £5200.

my only advice would be if you want one by as soon as one becomes available in the UK. I wouldn't bother with London AD's either, if you head outside of the M25 you might even find an AD that treats you as customer.
The beauty of Rolex is unlike electronics/car is if they do make any changes they are usually subtle and don't instantly devalue the previous model. If they do make changes to the explorer and everyone loves it, you won't be able to get one full stop without a significant premium. |
