How tight do you screw your crown down?

Just till it stops or harder?

Just till it stops and I never torque it down.

There is no point to torque it down due to the Rolex twin lock and trip lock

I use a pair of pliers that way I know my Subs safe to wash up with.

:

Just until it stops light finger tight

Until it stops - no need to turn further/harder.

That’s excessive. I just stop when my fingers bleed.

The crown knurls are designed to slip between the thumb and forefinger when enough torque is applied.

No need to bleed or use pliers, simply grip the crown with the aforementioned .4 Newton Pounds of force, and turn until you feel it slipping.

Just until it stops, and I am careful to feel for when the crown gets to that point.

Using about as much force as winding it takes...not much.

One turn past tight and back it off 47 degrees. No but seriously just until it stops, 0 pressure. Might make it just a little more snug if I was going swimming but even at that point there is no real need for it.

Until it stops, resistance is felt and my fingers slip as Larry said. This way it won’t unscrew itself on clothing, etc. I use the crown as a reference and always tighten it and align it the same way. On my D-Blue it’s just passed 12 o’clock. My wife’s DJ lines up like a marketing ad when tight.

Nice feedbacks from all of you here. I think I was over-tightening it.

Until it stops - and then a quarter turn backwards to prevent squeezing the gasket.

Many do because they mistakenly think that the crown gasket is a water-seal. The actual working seals are O-rings around the shaft inside the tube. The crown gasket does minimal work.

Finger tight, I never use force as it could damage the threads.

The trip lock crown on my sub is a pickle to pull out st the best of times so don’t tend to exacerbate the problem by over tightening the threads. Finger tight then back a quarter turn or so.

If it is functioning properly, the crown will have a hard stop and feel seated when it is screwed into position. You should not get the sensation of doubt if it is tight enough, only that it is done screwing down.

I have had a watch that the crown was not installed correctly, it was crooked, the result was a gradual feeling of getting tighter and doubt reminding me of the OPs question.

Happy new year.
