Dilemma - Gold Rolex or Patek

Hello guys, If you were given a choice between a full gold Rolex or Patek, which would you choose to add into existing collection? and which particular model in specific?

Current Collection: Batman, Hulk , Black and White Ceramic Daytona.

Thank you for sharing!

Based on your collection of all that is new and hot in SS, a PP nautilus would fit right in.

Patek Philippe 5396 1G Blue Dial is pretty great for full gold.

Short of context, I'd say you've 'completed' more or less the Rolex SS circuit. I'd boldly suggest going AP SS.

If strictly between the idea of Patek vs Rolex, Patek Gold for diversity of collection. Plus you're in Singapore...so...seems like plenty of situations where a Patek is called for.

Dilemma - Gold Rolex or Patek

Yellow gold Daytona or Submariner would be my pick. I never wore my 5711. Always felt too dainty for me. I’ll do just about anything wearing my gold Rolex watches.

You might want to research Patek’s maintenance cost and reliability before swimming in that pool.

Rolex for me. Most Pateks do nothing for me. I appreciate the craftsmanship, but I just don't wear dressy watches.

gold rolex is nice because it is GOLD
patek is nice because it is a higher level of watchmaking

depends on what you like

Agree with others, it depends on the models. Also consider FP Journe if you desire perhaps the very best craftsmanship available today.

Depends on your lifestyle. Do you go to elegant places or meetings frequently that deserve a gold Patek? because the good thing about a gold Rolex is that it is beautiful even on the seashore in a bathing suit. It is versatile. In my case, although I like a gold PP and is superior (Haute Horologerie) to a Rolex, I have a simple life, I would buy a Rolex.

I'd get both, a Patek, preferably a Nautilus or a black RG 5205, and then I'd sell 2 Rolexes and get a PM one, probably a YG Blue Subc.

An interesting question! I think two watches that look great on the wrist, (much more so that on screen or on paper) are the 5167/1A PP and the 116518LN Yellow gold oysterflex Daytona Rolex. The buzz of wearing these I would say is equivalent... but in different ways. Both can suit a smaller wrist and have plenty of style. Neither is that easy to obtain these days of course. I would be keen to know which of these two floats people's boats more?
Alternatively, if you are comparing e.g. a full gold Rolex Daydate/Daytona to say an Annual Calendar PP on a leather strap, that would be a nice comparison as both have merits and are completely different in styles.

I see you are a lover of gold! I admire that as I fear that gold watches are SO beautiful, but I may resist wearing them for fear of damaging them. The 5711/1R is such a thing of beauty it looks TOO good to wear (I know people will shout me down for saying that, but it is just so damned perfect I would hate to scratch or ding one!)

If the PP is gold on a strap it is completely different than the gold Rolex on a bracelet. There are some beautiful gold PP on bracelets but the cost will make your eyes water and good luck on being able to source a popular gold one without grey market inflation. I believe across the board that Rolex does the best PM watches on bracelets for the most reasonable cost in the market. I will not confuse the issue, PM DD on a bracelet. You will have a watch for life, that will be in-style 50 years from now. Even if you are not.

I agree 100% as a PP owner. Would NEVER NEVER purchase another PP. Plus, it takes 6-8 months to have one serviced.

PPs are very BLAHHH watches. I would skip PP period unless you absolutely have rockstar amounts of money to burn on a rather boring unreliable watch.

Buy a YG or RG DD40. A far superior watch. Skip the PP garbage.

If I already owned the standard modern references I’d either look at a Cellini or a vintage gold piece - go for something more unique sir.

I do like Pateks but you beat me to it, the service time is one thing I’m not a fan of and to have to do it more frequently than Rolex would irk me. That said OP has a number of Rolex as well, so maybe they’d be ok with it.

As an aside, neat you have both the black and the white Daytona C. Which one gets the most wrist time? Both incredible in their way.

Depends on whether you want to wear the watch or baby it. If you want to wear it, then Rolex because its case and movements are robust. If you want to baby it, to the point of worrying about whether it will need repair after a minor hit, then go PP.
