Address redacted on warranty card - impact?
Hi all, I've bought/sold both grey market and from ADs, but I'm considering a purchase and noticed that the seller (or someone earlier) has crossed out the name/address on the warranty card.
Is there any meaningful impact from doing this? I see how one would want to do this for privacy reasons... maybe this is something I should consider if I'm selling a watch with my name on it? Any insight would be appreciated. Thanks! |

People usually don't write their address on the card. Only their name.
Lot's of people are paranoid, nobody will be able to trace you by a name on the card

Ok, thanks. To clarify- both the name and address were crossed out. Does a crossed out name matter?

Wonder if it will actually void the warranty as #2 can no longer be ensured - Someone will probably know and post in 1..2...3
Rolex guarantees the proper functioning of its watches for a period of five years from the date of purchase. The Rolex guarantee excludes normal wear-and-tear (notably the wear-and-tear of non-metal bracelets and straps), loss, theft, or damage due to misuse. The substitution of components with, or the addition of, components or accessories not manufactured by Rolex will invalidate the guarantee. The guarantee is valid only if (1) the watch has been sold by an Official Rolex Retailer; (2) the guarantee card has been completed in full by the Official Rolex Retailer at the time of purchase; and (3) the guarantee card is presented with the watch, either to an Official Rolex Retailer or to an Official Rolex Service Centre. Any work carried out by third parties will render the guarantee null and void. |

When I purchased my LV from a grey dealer, my warranty card has a stamp from the official AD with the words non transferable. It didn’t matter to me since the original warranty has already ran out.

It shouldn't have any impact, so long as the card has not been tampered with.
Blacking out privacy information is different than defacing or damaging.

Thanks all. The watch is from 2005 and was serviced by RSC in 2016 ... So maybe this just comes down to optics. If buying this watch (16710 gmt ii Pepsi), I'm wondering if I should be asking for an additional discount / if this will affect future resale.
Seems like the answer is not really? |

Well, then the watch is out of warranty and hence can't see the value of card except for the purpose of having a (more) compete set

Why would the previous owners address be on the warranty card?

AD only writes in name and date of purchase on card.

Rolex will not honor the warranty if the card has been altered.
According to a personal experience at RSCNY a crossed out name on a warranty card counts as being altered. Other RSC May differ but this was RSCNY position.

Point #2 on the terms of the warranty (as posted earlier) states “at the time of purchase”. Therefore if at a later date it is crossed out, should technically make no difference.
