SD 43 caseback
I know I am not alone in thinking the SD43 caseback protrudes too much and is disproportionate to the rest of the case. This makes the watch at least for me not as comfortable as it could be. The deepsea solves this issue as the caseback diameter is larger relative to the case. I think the SD43 would be damn near perfect if this issue is addressed. What do you think the chances are that Rolex will fix this? I think they may have just slapped on the previous SD4k’s caseback, which as we know had a smaller case/profile.

I personally have no issues with the way the watch wears. For me it's perfect. I don't think Rolex has a history of making drastic design/dimensional changes to a reference while in production.

It’s definitely an issue for some because multiple people on this forum have brought it up.

I think it really depends on wrist size and where the watch actually sits. I am waiting on one and have similar concerns based on what other have implied

Non-issue for me. I like how it fits into my wrist grove.

This is pretty much the reason I ended up trading in my SD43...it bothered me too much. Other than that it’s a damn near perfect watch. That said, I don’t think it’s anything that will be changed any time soon.

I have both but have never compared the thickness of caseback between DS and SD. I assume they are about the same in thickness and don’t think Rolex deliberately make the caseback thicker without a reason.

Get a silicone ring and custom fit it around the “tallest” point of the caseback. Basically create a larger caseback by filling any area on the caseback that’s not touching your wrist. I just made this up but it could work.

0 issues. My thoughts are the opposite actually. The caseback being smaller to the case allows the watch to sink a bit on the wrist making the case wears flat therefore looking thinner than it actually is. this design helps the caseback visually disappear.
As others RF members mentioned above, it depends on how we wear the watch, I wear it snag and behind the protruding bone of my wrist, my observations are based on how the watch looks and feels in that area of the wrist.

I have a ~8" wrist that's more on the round side than flat. I've found the SD43 to be the most comfortable watch I've owned that actually looks proportionate to my size. My Sub is probably most comfortable (only due to being smaller and lighter) but my wrist sort of swallows it up.

No design can be ideal for everyone. The SD43 suits a pretty wide cross-section of wearers.

I understand that the case back protrudes ,I’ve tried them on and it’s a comfortable fit for a 43mm watch. With the look of a sub and the depth ability,I don’t think Rolex will change anything. You’re correct in saying just about perfect.

Count me in with the crowd who have no problem with the SD43 as is; indeed I find it nearly perfect on the wrist. However clearly the OP and some others do have an issue.
Nevertheless it would make no sense for Rolex to “fix” it. As OP has acknowledged, Rolex already make a large, extreme diver with a different caseback profile that fits his wrist comfortably. Changing the design of the SD43 would simply create a new cohort of owners who don’t get on with the amended watch with the added problem that they wouldn’t have an alternative to choose from in the Rolex line-up.

It's been brought up a lot but I have no issue with it. I do prefer the fit of the DSSD though.

I found that the DSSD wore slightly more comfortably than the SS43 due to the caseback shape.
Overall however, I still prefer the way the SD43 looks on my wrist, if that makes any sense |

Exactly the same for me. I loved the watch but found it incredibly uncomfortable due to the thickness and case back. So had to sell it, unfortunately. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I own the SD43 and a DSSD JC and both of the watches fit great. I have no caseback issues with either. I also own a Hulk and the design of the modern Submariner is also perfect for me. I believe with the larger dive watches from Rolex, bracelet fit is important to overall fit. If you like to wear your watch loose or not fitted to the wrist you may experience issues with size and casebacks more than an owner who wears the watch fitted firmly. Just my thoughts.

Agree. Fit is so important with bigger watches, Lowe is not an option.
