Polar Explorer or Black Bay 58

Greetings everyone,

I have been offered to trade an one year old Explorer II 216570 Polar Dial for my brand new unsized Black Bay 58 w/ Bracelet full set. Obviously I have to add cash which will most likely equal to $1000 below current Explorer II MSRP with taxes.

But.......
The Explorer II is not in the most pristine condition. There are light scratches all over the watch. It’s not abused but definitely worn on a daily basis before. Also, not only it’s missing the outer sleeve, it doesn’t have the original green and paper boxes or the white serial tag.

I already have Black Bay GMT so not sure whether I need two Tudors at this time. I got the 58 only because I waited almost 8 months. I got the GMT during this time and didn’t want to refund my deposit from AD.

What would you do? Trade or keep the BB58?

Thanks for reading.

I would stay the hell away from that trade, no original box and papers for a one year old Explorer II with scratches all over? Smells like a stolen watch to me

If I’m following what you are saying, your cash plus your Tudor will put your investment in the Explorer at only $1,000 below new retail and the Explorer is well worn and not a complete set.
No, I wouldn’t do that.

The seller flips watches on a regular basis. He said he mixed up boxes from previous sale. The warranty card matches serial number on the watch though. Thanks for the advice!

I see these type of posts all the time. Don’t get me wrong I have a Tudor and a Rolex but there is not one Tudor that comes even close to a Sports model Rolex. The love that this ladies sized Tudor 58 is receiving on forums and social media is getting beyond a joke.

Make the trade, the Rolex destroys it.

I agree with you Sports Rolex are far superior than Tudor. However, for the price nothing beats Tudor. Sometimes you just want a more subtle watch to wear. You don’t want random strangers complementing your Rolex and eager to make a conversation. Tudor is best for these days..... I love my BB GMT!

I also like the GMT. I think it is a better watch than the 58 in every way and stands alone as a solid alternative to the Rolex BLRO.

The only reason the 58 gets so much love is because it has appeased people with wrists less than 7 inches.

I agree. The Polar Explorer is a wonderful watch, just not this one w/o papers/box and all scratched up...just say no. There will be better options if you keep looking. Good luck. Cheers!

Although the EXP II would be my choice, not in this instance considering the wear and lack of complete kit.

I would trade a BB 58 for a 216570, but not that 216570.

Thanks for the advice everyone. I think I will offer the BB58 to friends and family and wait for a new explorer from AD. Already got told to bundle either with OP or DJ

I’d keep the The Tudor. If you want the polar sell it in a Private sale and get a polar in better condition that’s a full kit

screw the bundle BS and take your business somewhere else, your AD is trying to fleece you. Or you may as well buy your explorer II second hand, the slight premium you will pay will be less than the price of a OP or DJ.
