Which is your "Grail" Rolex?
I was thinking myself about this matter lately, and wished to share my thoughts with my friends at TRF.
I mean, some time ago, I badly wanted to own a current model Daytona, and was very exited when I finally got the chance to get one. That´s a fantastic, accurate, good looking watch, which I very much enjoy on my wrist. That was my "almost Grial Rolex", and still is. But there is another Rolex I would really love to own: that is a "no crown guard" type Submariner. Any model from the 6200/6204 through the 5536/5508 versions. A model commonly known as "Bond Sub" something like this: Yes, of course I know, that it is said that the true "Bond Sub" was a 6538, but any of the above mentioned models would make me SUPER HAPPY. I "officially" declare it, rigth here, my Grail watch. I considered the Daytona P. Newman for the title of my own Grail Rolex, but it happens to be well beyond my economic possibilities, and this was a definitive point in the answering to my question, so I discarded it for this title. To this day, my own Grial Rolex "no crown guard" Sub has been very elusive to me: prices too high to my expectations and possibilities, or watches suspiciously looking regarding its originality. May be someday it will arrive! Now... Dear TRF fellow member: which is your Grial Rolex? Do you already own it? Or just waiting for it, like me? Thanks in advance for your comments. Kind regards, Abel

i agree with you on the 6538, if i was going to buy a sub it would be a vintage one, i would be happy with a 5513 also :)
modern day grail would have to be the dssd which i acquired. yes i passed up a ss daytona for the dssd and do not regret it one bit |

Dan : Doubl Red SD: Great choice! Same Daytona1 Jen: rose gold Daytona: Anything else? Greaty choice, would look Great on a lady wrist! Thanks for your comments! Kind regards, Abel

I have this mental block thing that would probably never let me spend a crazy amount on a watch (over $20K). I have the same thing with cars too, I just wont spend over a certain amount even if I mad much more money. Like I said its a mental block..Now if my wife wanted to buy me a gift with "our" money, well then...............

For now, all I really want (that's a Rolex) is a steel GMT-Master IIc. Also, some day, when I have more time and money, I'd love to have a red Sub in good condition.
My ultimate grail watch, however, is not a Rolex.

Platinum Daytona.... if they only made one. Since they don't, I'll go with WG Daytona with one of the new dials.

According to a Hong Kong store on Ebay this, 1953 Rolex Submariner Ref. 6200 Explorer Dial, should be pretty special at a price of 110,000 $.
For me a old SS model of the Sub/GMT/Daytona would be the Holy Grail. //Fred |

My GMT was my grail watch. Long thought after and worth many efforts.
Any extra Rolex will be another incredible bonus (16610, 16700)

White Gold Daytona
It has to be my White Gold Daytona. I am looking to get one of the new dials added to it very soon and I think i will buy the other one to swap it whn I want. It currently sits on the black face with the red hands and that is also stunning.

Pan Am GMT
A mid 50s Model 6542 White dialed GMT Master. A watch made for the ground crew of Pan Am airlines. I have never seen a photo of one, just a drawing in a book.
