Best way to sell a watch in the U.K.?
Please, no judgements on why I am selling something!
I have thus far only bought cheap watches via eBay or such, and expensive watches direct from an authorised dealer. I have never sold a watch. But now I may be doing so, and looking at the options have a number of concerns - exacerbated by the occasional post where the buyer does a runner with the sellers watch despite being in a bank or supposedly safe location. And that is aside from the issue of transfer of funds, possible fake currency, “did not arrive” scams, “watch was fake” scams and “eBay sided with the buyer even though I had full proof of x”. So, I seek advice on what forum members would suggest. EBay seems to work for many, has fairly low fees and can be circumvented, but then you have the multiple possible issues mentioned above. Trusted sellers on this very forum - well, I would be a first timer so I assume and hope not very trusted yet. But I only have one watch to sell! Sell to a dealer - but I have sought approximate valuations from a few and all are absolutely derisory, in the order of £5k below what I know they can sell the watch for. Chrono24 is where I look at a lot of watches, it has zero insertion fee, an escrow facility (would be interested in anyone’s experience of this) but a 6.5% commission fee, which would be over £550 for the sort of price I would hope to get. I am leaning towards Chrono24 as the safest option, despite being expensive, other than being ripped off by a high street dealer. I would greatly appreciate any thoughts and advice. Many thanks atn_uk |
