Datejust II vs Datejust 41

I bought a datejust II in 2010, obviously then they changed it to the datejust 41. The difference to me are very minor I don’t even notice, however I don’t own a datejust 41. I’m interested to know if anyone actually prefers one to the other? And is there a possibility of a datejust II becoming a collectors item, I can’t see it myself and it’s virtually no different.. great watch anyway!

I Own a couple of DJ2, all baton dial.

I bought them specifically because I like the wider batons and the sportier look.

A modern day ‘wide boy’ if you will.

The DJ41 is a nice watch, but it looks too similar to the traditional 36 dials IMO and I wanted something different.

Like ‘wide boy’ dials now attract a premium, eventually the DJ2 I imagine will do the same. It’s just that bit different.

Mine are keepers.

I have the silver dial it really shines in the light with the polished center links and white gold bezel

DJ2 is more like a DJ36 on steroids. It's bigger, bulkier and has different proportions. THe DJ41 is like a larger DJ36. It basically looks like a larger DJ36. Same proportions and everything.

My personal opinion is the Rolex messed up with the DJII and fixed it with the DJ41

I have a DJ41 and love it. Ive never owned a DJII but i also find it attractive with those bold batons. I often think of finding one in SS with a black dial.

I agree. Rolex seldom introduce a new model and discontinue it so quickly. A shame too because the DJII looks *quite* different to the DJ41 to the Datejust devotee like me. I have the DJ41 Wimbledon and love it but I would definitely consider adding a DJII if the price and configuration were to my taste.

Question: was the 3235 mvt. available when the DJII was introduced? Obviously the '41' has it and the 70hr pwr reserve is excellent.

I had a DJII and loved it. I now have a DJ41 and love it. I couldn't really pick a favorite between the two. I love (and prefer) the bigger size of the DJII, but I also love the jubilee option on the DJ41. I never found the proportions on the DJII to be a problem, in fact I really liked everything about that watch.

I’ve owned the DJ2 and truly enjoyed that watch. You can’t go wrong either way!

I have a DJ2 and I like it. Blue with indexes and fluted bezel. If you showed the DJ2 and DJ41 to a non-watch enthusiast, they would be hard pressed to find much of a difference. Above posters are correct that the DJ41 is a little less bold.

Similar sentiment. Having had both on my wrist, I like the look of my DJII better. Personal preference.

I went from 116300 to 126334. After two times problems within 1,5 years (also to AD under warranty for repair) with the accuracy of the newer movement I was done, and sold it.
Last year I bought two mint (near NOS) 2015 DJII's B/P back, no regrets whatsoever.

I also viewed side by side and would favour the DJII but must say I was shocked just how little difference there is between the two models, having read so much on here about the so wrong proportions etc.
In reality the differences are tiny and if you like one model you'll like them both in my opinion

DJ11 was my first, the batons are a little thicker but in my opinion make it as others have said, a more sporty looking dress type watch

I'm the complete opposite. I think the fluted bezel proportions look odd on the 41 but hit the mark on the II.

And doesn't appear bolder when you have Romans instead of block indices either.

Never have seen or worn a DJII. But after I got my DJ41 no need to even think about it. DJ41 all the way...great watch and movement. Can't go wrong..
