Incoming SkyD.... and availability question

Firstly .. I’m not sure if incoming is meant to mean from an AD.. however, bought this today! Very happy with it! Paid about ten per cent over retail price. I am on a list from my AD who told me two years a few months ago but I couldn’t wait. I already own the yellow gold one and many other Rolex and I honestly think this is the best watch Rolex make.

Which brings me to my next question. I don’t see hardly any incoming posts for Skydwellers. Also there are only 80 odd for sale on c24 (white dial). They seem very elusive. I have a feeling these are going to rocket in value at some point in the near future. I see a lot of watches going through my AD and no sky dwellers. Do you see or hear of many passing through your local AD?

Thanks. Best dial in my opinion for this watch. My collection is predominantly black face so fits in lovely.

Congratulations! I love the white dial. I think Sky D's are more of a unicorn. I have hardly seen ANY in the wild, and my AD has been few and far between on getting any in.

Thankyou. Yeah that’s my feeling as well. Was actually surprised the waiting list was only 2 years.

Congrats on the watch, looks great on you!

My opinion on the lack of availability on the grey market though is 1.) it's a bigger watch and isn't necessarily a one size fits all model, like say a Sub or DJ and 2.) it looks very similar to a DJ at a pretty hefty premium. So while it might be harder to obtain at the AD, I just don't think people are clamoring for like the other "hot" models. #1 is also the main reason why I don't think it will skyrocket in price.

Now, you and I understand the differences between this and a DJ, but for the common watch buyer looking for his first Rolex, I think most people will gravitate towards the smaller, less expensive DJ that looks nearly identical.

Congratulations. Great watch.

My AD received one black SS, one white SS and two blue SS Sky Dwellers last year. Their allocation for 2020 is the same. I settled for a TT black model, paid a deposit and waited. And waited. And waited. When I heard about the January 2020 price rise in the UK I was prompted to cancel my TT and get the SS model I really wanted on the grey market.

I wish I could have got it from my AD. Or any AD! The only option available for me was to either buy one used or just forget about it.

I like how the white SS dial has a little bit of contrast between the reference time disk and the dial. The black one is all black and could do with just a hint of contrast IMO. When the black sunburst finish bursts into life the contrast with the plain black wheel looks really great. It doesn't happen often.

The local Rolex rep told me FTF that the SkyD are very hard to get. I had a SS white but through trading around, I ended up with a TT black which I lover dearly. My photos stink but it's a truly lovely watch.

Harry, I must say, that looks exceptional in any light! Good job!

I was recently chatting to my AD about this model. It is the second most complicated watch Rolex make (Cellini Moonphase being the most complicated). There are a limited number of Rolex watch makers that can actually make this watch. This is one of the main reasons why they’re so elusive. Plus then when you have to split them across 3 dial colours in SS alone, plus all the PM pieces, it becomes instantly elusive!

Congrats! I have the blue dial. Love this watch. I get so many compliments on it when I wear it. I love how I only need to change the date once a year on it too. As you mentioned they are hard to get, I’ve never seen anyone wearing one.

Enjoy the watch!

I added the same SS combination with white dial before the end of the year. It would make my third time owning a SkyD (WG and TT gone), and this one is here to stay. I too paid a little above retail, as my local AD's snickered at the thought of seeing one at retail anytime soon... like years!

Congrats!! They are neat watches.

My AD gets a few from time to time. Truth be told, they don’t tend to get much interest in them. I passed on one right after the Basel release.

Funny you should say that as I’ve just pulled this out the safe to sell tomorrow as it’s so similar

Thank you.

I don't think you can go wrong with any dial. Just get the dial you like best, assuming you can actually get your hands on one!

I haven't seen a single Sky Dweller posted in this thread that I would not love to own. Great watches all of them.

Nope. The one at 12 is for Dec. It follows the numbers for the months (1 is Jan, 2 Feb etc)

Was just thinking the same thing about the contrast. I have the TT and I wish for this as well. The older disks had this I believe but I think it was too much contrast.
