Rolex Date - Authorized Dealer Can't Repair, What Are My Options?
I have a Rolex Date that I got from my dad about 10 years ago. He got the watch in 1970 and the serial dates it back to 1968. He had the watch serviced about 12 years ago by a jeweler who did not have access to official Rolex parts. The crown is an unofficial crown (it's obvious because it doesn't have the Rolex crown logo on it) and there may be a few internal parts that aren't official Rolex parts either.
Lately the watch hasn't been holding a charge well, so I went to a local authorized Rolex dealer to get it serviced. They told me they can't service it and Rolex can't service it because the watch has some aftermarket parts. According to the dealer no Rolex dealer can touch this watch again now that 3rd party parts have been used and they cannot replace the aftermarket parts with official Rolex ones. What options do I have at this point for getting it repaired? There seem to be a number of unauthorized places that will repair it, but I'm leery of going to one after what happened last time. Is there any way to get it repaired with official parts? |

There are plenty of people that should be able to fix your watch and use original Rolex parts again. I'm sure a couple of people will chime in and let you know who to contact.
Good luck. |

Lol. You’ve been a forum member for twelve years and this is your first post!
You’ll probably get more helpful advice is you say where you’re located. Photos would help too. |

Usually a Rolex Service Center will repair your watch, as long as you agree to have any aftermarket parts replaced with genuine Rolex parts. I think that your Dealer may be mistaken.
However, there are plenty of good independents who can do the job. Call around and look for a shop that has a Rolex parts account. As mentioned, Philip Ridley or Bob Ridley, both in Texas could likely do a good job. Also we have good reports from Rik Dietel in Florida.

What?
I thought if you take a watch to a Rolex Service Center, and it has aftermarket parts, they give you a quote that includes replacing every single aftermarket part They won’t service it and return it with after market parts, but it’s my understanding that they will quote you for replacing everything I say you call a RSC and explain the situation. Maybe your dealer is giving you wrong info. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

I think you ought to call the RSC and have the shipping instructions emailed to you. Send it in and get an estimate. You should expect a fairly high quote since any generic parts must be replaced as well as the overhaul costs.
Alternatively, look through the AWCI website for certified watchmakers near you. If any have a Rolex parts account you could save some money. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro

I'm located in Minneapolis. Attached are 3 pictures of the watch. I apologize that they're not very good.

Deal with RSC directly. They will definitely require any fake parts be replaced, but should still work on it.
Your AD just wants to sell you a new rolex. |
